Clarkson’s Farm has documented the former Top Gear host’s journey as he tries to run Diddly Squat Farm, but some have complained the show makes a ‘joke’ out of farming.
Davina McCall has leapt to the defence of Jeremy Clarkson after claiming some people think he is ‘making a joke’ out of farming.
Clarkson, 64, has been documenting his foray into farming on Amazon Prime documentary series Clarkson’s Farm.
It shows how the former Top Gear host, alongside lifelong farmer Kaleb Cooper, have battled against the weather, red tape, and all manner of problems as they try and make the Oxfordshire-based Diddly Squat Farm a success.
Davina, who is covering for Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast, defended Jeremy after showbiz presenter Ashley Roberts was discussing Kaleb’s latest update about the farm.
Former Pussycat Doll Ashley said: “Kaleb Cooper has given us a little update on the Diddly Squat Farm. Muddy trails from the rain and all of the seeds that have sowed, it’s going to be a rough year.”
Davina, initially concerned for the show’s future, replied: “I was really worried there that something really bad was going to happen with Diddly Squat, [like] we weren’t going to get another series, but I think this is going to make the next series very dramatic.”
She later added: “I know people might think Jeremy Clarkson is making a joke out of farming but I think, actually what he is doing is showing us how tough it is.”
Farmers have largely supported Jeremy’s venture at Diddly Squat, with the National Farmers’ Union declaring him “farming champion” in 2021.
Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen, has previously suggested farmers “love” Jeremy.
Adding: “I’m absolutely sure of that because he highlights the problems of farming even under his umbrella of humour and doing it all wrong.
“He has absolutely brought to the nation how difficult the job is.”
Author and farmer James Rebanks has also praised Clarkson for “clowning around”. He said: “A lot of farmers are lads that like machines and they would have watched Top Gear and all the rest of it.”
Clarkson’s Farm has run for three hugely successful series on Amazon Prime Video. Season four is currently in production.
