In an emotional moment in the new series of Clarkson’s Farm the 74-year-old got together with his fellow workers as Jeremy comforted him
The new series of Clarkson’s Farm which has just gone live on Amazon Prime ended with a tearful scene as his friend Gerald gave Jeremy an update on his cancer battle. Earlier in the series Jeremy aired concern for his friend Gerald after the farmer admitted: “I can’t do no more.” In previous scenes, Gerald told his co-stars he had prostate cancer and was undergoing treatment for it.
Jeremy was joined by his co-stars, Lisa Hogan, Charlie, Kaleb Cooper and Gerald as they reflected on the past year at Diddly Squat Farm. Jeremy said: “We have had our usual year of rows, bad weather, disappointments, deaths but let us look at it this way, I became a grandfather for the first time, you became a father again (pointing to Kaleb) and you, the G-Dog beat the big C.”
“Yeah,” Gerald nodded emotionally as they all said “Cheers”. “I would like to thank everybody, all the film crew, and all my friends here,” Gerald said before choking back tears.
“Oh,” Jeremy simply replied before adding words of comfort: “Well done you!”
The 74-year-old, who has been a hit with fans for his difficult to understand West Country accent and natural charm on screen, is being treated for prostate cancer and underwent surgery at some point last year.
At the end of the first episode, Jeremy Clarkson receives the heartbreaking news during a phone call with what is thought to be Gerald’s wife.
Viewers are left in suspense as the former Top Gear and Grand Tour presenter is seen to be in dismay, before telling the cameras “Gerald’s got cancer. Oh s***.”
Clarkson later reveals in the second episode more details about Gerald’s cancer diagnosis. He tells viewers: “Gerald had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Something me and Kaleb discussed while trying to do what our absent friend normally does.”
Fans have been watching for updates with ferret mom saying: “Watching clarkson’s farm 3 the drama between Jeremy and Caleb and I’m here for it @JeremyClarkson I love it I hope Gerald recovering too.”
Jeremy says: ‘I’ve been phoning around, doctors and things I know, and his odds are really good but it’s scaring him to death.’ Kaleb replies ‘He doesn’t understand, you know that.’
Jeremy adds: ‘I know he doesn’t understand and he’s bewildered because, for obvious reasons, somebody said, “Look, I’m sorry it’s cancer”, and that’s all he heard. He’s desperately upset, terrified. Poor man.’
