Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden) would be a great character for Wes to team up with in an FBI spinoff. The two already have an excellent working relationship, and the most recent episode made it clear that they create a lighter feel to this universe than any other show could. A spinoff with the two would also make up for all the time spent developing them both, when it was clear there was hope for FBI: International season 5 to continue the tale.
FBI: International’s Wes & Tyler’s History Makes Them The Perfect Team-Up
Wes & Tyler Work Together Easily
It was immediately clear when Tyler was introduced in FBI: International that the two had a history. This went far beyond a work history, as well. The two are close friends, and they have each other’s backs both in the field and in their personal lives. In fact, when Tyler returned to offer a hand in FBI: International season 4, episode 18, he immediately commented on Wes consistently receiving phone calls and dodging them, wondering if Ella was back in his life, leading to Wes opening up about his dad.
A Buddy Cop FBI Spinoff Would Be Perfect For Wes & Tyler
Wes & Tyler Already Have The Buddy Cop Banter
Throughout FBI: International season 4, episode 20, Wes and Tyler chatted about work and life. Things with Wes’ dad, Dean, came up, and there were discussions of the potential half-sister, Delilah. For Wes, Tyler is the person to turn to for advice, and he is more than happy to offer it in a respectful way. At the same time, Tyler likes to poke fun, and his personal history with Wes means that the fun is poked back.
How The FBI Universe Can Benefit From A Lighter Spinoff
Dick Wolf Shows Tend To Be On The Heavier Side
When you look at all the Dick Wolf universe TV shows out there, you’ll likely notice that there is a darkness to them. They cover topics like trafficking, assault, and murder, and it can be difficult to keep them entertaining as well as realistic. With the state of the world and the darkness of the news, we all need an escape now and then. Even when it comes to the cop dramas, TV shows become that escape, as we get to see the good guys take out the villains.
Shows like Will Trent and High Potential perform well because of the dramedy aspect, and it’s time for the FBI shows to attempt this.
