Jesse Lee Soffer Can Still Continue As Mitchell In A New Spinoff With Tyler After FBI: International

When FBI: International initially introduced Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer), there was the intention to take the story further. However, FBI: International season 4 is now going to be the last, and it feels like a lot of the season has been wasted rather than wrapping up other arcs. There is a way for the FBI universe to make good on the development that Wes has had, and that’s to create a spinoff series.

Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden) would be a great character for Wes to team up with in an FBI spinoff. The two already have an excellent working relationship, and the most recent episode made it clear that they create a lighter feel to this universe than any other show could. A spinoff with the two would also make up for all the time spent developing them both, when it was clear there was hope for FBI: International season 5 to continue the tale.

FBI: International’s Wes & Tyler’s History Makes Them The Perfect Team-Up

Wes & Tyler Work Together Easily

It was immediately clear when Tyler was introduced in FBI: International that the two had a history. This went far beyond a work history, as well. The two are close friends, and they have each other’s backs both in the field and in their personal lives. In fact, when Tyler returned to offer a hand in FBI: International season 4, episode 18, he immediately commented on Wes consistently receiving phone calls and dodging them, wondering if Ella was back in his life, leading to Wes opening up about his dad.

With their work and friendship history, the two work well together in the field, supporting each other when cases get tough and emotional. Even though they haven’t always agreed on the way forward in a case, they have been able to respect each other’s differences. On numerous occasions, Tyler has stepped back from his opinions, respecting Wes is in charge and there is a chain of command.

A Buddy Cop FBI Spinoff Would Be Perfect For Wes & Tyler

Wes & Tyler Already Have The Buddy Cop Banter

Throughout FBI: International season 4, episode 20, Wes and Tyler chatted about work and life. Things with Wes’ dad, Dean, came up, and there were discussions of the potential half-sister, Delilah. For Wes, Tyler is the person to turn to for advice, and he is more than happy to offer it in a respectful way. At the same time, Tyler likes to poke fun, and his personal history with Wes means that the fun is poked back.

Lightheartedness is essential for a buddy cop series to work, which is something the two have. They are both strong personalities on the screen, and they would be able to hold their own but also offer comedic relief when necessary. Their breezy way of poking fun at each other, but not in a way that offends, helps us to get to know them more and really understand the deeper relationship that they have. It’s also easier to accept that they are on the same wavelength and can bounce ideas off each other when it comes to solving cases, because they already have that history.

How The FBI Universe Can Benefit From A Lighter Spinoff

Dick Wolf Shows Tend To Be On The Heavier Side

When you look at all the Dick Wolf universe TV shows out there, you’ll likely notice that there is a darkness to them. They cover topics like trafficking, assault, and murder, and it can be difficult to keep them entertaining as well as realistic. With the state of the world and the darkness of the news, we all need an escape now and then. Even when it comes to the cop dramas, TV shows become that escape, as we get to see the good guys take out the villains.

Shows like Will Trent and High Potential perform well because of the dramedy aspect, and it’s time for the FBI shows to attempt this.

At the same time, we also need some fun, and a buddy cop drama offers that. Shows like Will Trent and High Potential perform well because of the dramedy aspect, and it’s time for the FBI shows to attempt this. Another option is to do something more on the lines of NCIS with the mixture of banter and seriousness to offer just entertainment at times, and that is something Wes and Tyler proved they could offer in FBI: International season 4, episode 20FBI: International and Most Wanted have started to dip in the linear ratings, and maybe the darkness of the shows is partially to blame for that, so bringing a lighter spinoff with two established characters could help to grow the franchise once more.
