Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik Return for Young Sheldon’s Series Finale — First Look!
Parsons reprises his role as genius Sheldon Cooper while Bialik steps back into the role of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler
Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are helping Young Sheldon end with a bang.
The CBS comedy’s final episode — which airs May 16 — will see Parsons and Bialik stepping back into the shoes of their beloved characters from The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler, respectively.
Parsons is an executive producer and narrator for Young Sheldon, while Bialik has provided voiceovers for two episodes of the show, including the season 4 episode entitled “Graduation,” in which Amy quips that Sheldon should “just be glad” she let Sheldon name their son Leonard Cooper. (The once-in-a-generation genius would have preferred Leonard Nimoy Cooper after the late actor Leonard Nimoy who played Spock in the Star Trek franchise.)
In the first look photos at Young Sheldon’s series finale, Sheldon — sporting a plaid robe — is working on his laptop while Amy — holding a mug — is standing beside him, getting a peek at his laptop screen. As she spends more time looking at what’s onscreen, a quizzical look crosses her face. In the third and final image, Sheldon has a look of satisfaction as he appears to close his laptop shut.
With Young Sheldon’s finale airing in less than two weeks, the cast recently shared with PEOPLE their feelings on the beloved comedy coming to an end and teased what viewers can expect from the episode.
“It very much comes full circle, and I think we are trying to do our best to satisfy both fans of our show and [The Big Bang Theory], and it’s been so much fun to film,” Iain Armitage told PEOPLE last month. “We’re having a great time, and it’s definitely hard and definitely emotional ending it, but it’s such a fun ride either way.”
Emily Osment, who plays Mandy and will reprise her role in an upcoming CBS spin-off that starts shooting this summer, expressed sadness over Young Sheldon coming to an end.
“Wrapping Sheldon was so heartbreaking and so bittersweet,” said Osment, 32. “The finale is going to truly break your heart. Make sure you’re sitting down and you have Kleenex.”
In a series of photos shared to his Instagram Stories, Armitage revealed that The Big Bang Theory prequel had wrapped its last day of filming in mid-April after CBS announced that the series would be concluding with its 7th and final season in November 2023.
“Today was our last day of filming. What a joy, honor and a privilege,” Armitage wrote after reposting producer Alex Reid’s photo of the set.
After his long and final day of filming, the 15-year-old actor share a photo of the Warner Brothers studio lot at sunset in the next slide.
“End of the day, driving [off] the lot for the last day of filming @youngsheldoncbs — I’ve loved it here at Warner Brothers,” he captioned the post,
In a longer tribute posted to his feed, Armitage also reflected on his first day on the Young Sheldon set in 2017 when he was 8-years-old. While paying tribute to his time on the hit series, the actor opened up about how he’s been impacted by the role after playing young Sheldon Cooper after all these years.
“This is 8 yr old me getting ready to film the very first scene I did as Young Sheldon,” he wrote alongside a throwback photo of him holding a brief case on set. “@melissapeterman recently asked what I would go back and tell my younger self. Maybe I wouldn’t tell him anything and I would just let life unfold as it does, but I think he’d be so surprised and happy to see where we are now. I sure am.”
“I don’t think this kid could have anticipated what it would feel like to film our final scene all these years later,” he continued, concluding, “Thank you, amazing crew, past and present, and those who have been there the whole time. I love you all so much!”
