Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple found love on The Golden Bachelorette, overcoming family doubts and fears to embrace a second chance at love.
They both came to The Golden Bachelorette with their emotional histories, and the difficult part wasn’t building the connection, but sustaining it after their families got involved. So here’s a glimpse of what love and acceptance were like for the duo.
Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple’s second chance at love on The Golden Bachelorette
Joan Vassos is a 61-year-old school administrator from Maryland, and she found herself open to romance once again, after losing her husband in 2021. Chock Chapple seemed to win her heart and understood that she was a devoted mother of four who wanted to spend her remaining years with a partner while prioritizing her children and grandchildren.
Chapple on the other hand had a divorce and he was single for several years before taking a leap of faith into The Golden Bachelorette. We saw their relationship blossom through heartfelt conversations, shared experiences, and more.
All of this built up to the touching and beautiful proposal we saw in the season finale. But at their age, Chapple and Vassos also had to navigate the complexities of bringing their children into the picture, as they began a novel chapter of their lives.

The Golden Bachelorette’s Chock Chapple and Joan Vassos overcome fears and family doubts
Joan Vassos’ family had some reservations about Chapple, so their relationship could have been derailed even before it started. The latter has two sons, Taylor and Tyler, who seem to have no problem with the relationship. However, Vassos’ children, who were incredibly close to her did not like the idea of someone new stepping into her life after their father’s passing.
Allison, Nicholas, Erica, and Luke, are her four strong pillars and have been the biggest support to their mother, but they feared that Chapple would try to replace their dad. They finally confronted him during the finale and needed reassurance that their father’s memory would not be overshadowed by their mother’s new relationship.
Chapple being the gentleman and kind figure he is, understood their concern, and answered with empathy. He made it clear that he had no intention of replacing their father and only wanted to be a part of their family’s story. Chapple’s honesty won them over, and they seemed relieved to welcome a new member.
