John Goodman, 71, looks unrecognisable in a rare appearance after shedding an impressive 14 stone.
The actor, who has undergone a significant weight loss journey, was spotted looking slimmer than ever in New York City while accompanied by his wife Anna Beth as the couple were seen arriving at JFK airport on Tuesday. In pictures obtained by the Mirror, John sported a casual look with a khaki zip-up hoodie over a long-sleeved blue cotton top and midwash jeans, although he appeared a bit downcast.
Adding to his ensemble, he wore a pair of tan loafers as he was sighted in the city. Earlier in the day, he was seen in the same outfit but with khaki trousers as they arrived at JFK. Anna Beth was spotted pulling a pink suitcase behind her as they continued their journey.
The Flintstones star, now 71, made a commitment back in 2007 to completely overhaul his lifestyle and adopt healthier habits. It seems he’s been successful in maintaining this change. John, who previously tipped the scales at 392lb (28 stone), showed off his slimmed-down figure, looking almost unrecognisable compared to his past self.
Fans will remember him from popular shows like Roseanna and The Conners, as well as a host of big-screen titles. His film credits include iconic movies such as The Blues Brothers, Monsters Inc, Transformers, The Hangover, The Big Lebowski, Coyote Ugly, Cars and many more.
John’s initial attempts at weight loss proved unsuccessful before he decided to quit drinking in 2007.
Personal trainer Mackie Shilstone introduced John to a “Mediterranean-style eating plan” which focuses on eating fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit. Regular exercise has also formed a core part of John’s weight loss strategy, as he works out six days a week and clocks up 10,000 to 12,000 steps daily.
Reflecting on his weight loss journey in a 2017 interview with ABC, John stated, “In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits.
“This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”
In a separate interview with Howard Stern, John emphasized the importance of adopting a new mindset and viewing weight management as an ongoing process.
He said: “I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle. It’s an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”
