💔 Kara Killmer Breaks Silence on Chicago Fire Exit: “Leaving Sylvie Was One of the Hardest Goodbyes of My Life”
After nearly a decade of portraying the beloved paramedic Sylvie Brett on Chicago Fire, Kara Killmer is opening up about her emotional departure from the series — and it’s hitting fans right in the heart.
In a heartfelt message to fans and the press, Killmer shared:
“Walking away from Firehouse 51 was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Sylvie Brett has been such a huge part of my life — not just as a character, but as a woman with incredible strength, compassion, and heart. She taught me so much.”
Killmer made her debut back in Season 3, stepping into some very big shoes after the heartbreaking loss of Leslie Shay. Over the years, she became a core part of the Chicago Fire family — and fans watched her character grow, love, fight, and ultimately find her happy ending with Matt Casey.
“Filming that final scene — Brett and Casey’s wedding — was beautiful, surreal, and bittersweet,” she continued. “It felt like closing a chapter that I will always hold dear.”
But while leaving Chicago Fire was emotional, Killmer is looking ahead with hope and excitement. She recently landed her first major role post-Fire — as Lady Julia in Jimmy, the upcoming biopic about Hollywood legend James Stewart. The film stars KJ Apa (Riverdale) and will dive into Stewart’s life during the 1940s, with production already underway in Ireland.
“I’m so honored to be part of something so meaningful and cinematic,” Killmer said of her new role. “But no matter where my career takes me, Firehouse 51 will always be home.”
As fans eagerly await Chicago Fire Season 14 (premiering Oct. 1 on NBC), many are still feeling the void Sylvie Brett left behind. But with Killmer stepping into a new chapter, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing more of her on the big screen — and cheering her on every step of the way.
