Kate Winslet fans spot strange detail on new 25th anniversary Titanic poster
Kate Winslet fans were left confused after the February 2023 re-release poster of Titanic was released.
Ahead of the film’s 25th anniversary, the production gave the original artwork a new look, however, eagle-eyed supporters of the story noticed something amiss.
The nineties cult classic followed the tale of the real-life Titanic wreck in 1912 and its residents Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) as they fell in love on the doomed cruise liner.
At the time of the 1997 debut, the movie’s poster featured Jack and Rose in their iconic position at the bow of the ship.
Leonardo’s character wrapped his arms around Kate as her part spread her arms out wide, allowing the wind to whip through her long, curly brunette hair.
The latest edition of the promotional cover stayed true to the original, casting Jack and Rose as the focal point of the picture, but fans noticed a strange detail when it came to Kate’s hair.
Throughout the film, the now 47-year-old actress sported some impressive hair-dos, always appearing immaculately dressed up to the very moment of the wreckage.
In the new poster, the star whose face appears side-on seems to be depicted with two completely different hairstyles.
Up close, her curly locks cover the side of her head as Leonardo’s Jack leans his chin on her neck.
On the other side of her face, long dead-straight hair falls over her shoulder, appearing to be out of place and disjointed from the original wardrobe of the film.
Titanic fans immediately aired their grievances online, questioning the decision to alter their favourite heroine’s signature look.
Entertainment reporter Hunter Harris kicked things off by resharing the announcement of new artwork and penned: ‘Why does she have two different hairstyles… a side part right next to the center part … don’t do her like that.’
Audience members debated the topic in the comments, with one writing: ‘It’s not even the right angle. Like they tried one shot of her, then dropped in another and forgot to delete the first.’
Another guessed there may be a deeper meaning behind the change: ‘There were 2 sides to her…the girl from an uptight rich patriarchal family and the carefree curious woman she was becoming’. (sic)
