Kayce Dutton Yellowstone Spinoff Trailer Reveals First Look At Luke Grimes’ Y: Marshals Return md20

Set to debut on CBS next year, although no specific release date has been announced, the spinoff picks up after the events of Yellowstone season 5. It is one of several spinoffs in the works, with fan-favorite couple Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) also getting their own spinoff for Paramount+.

A new preview, via Entertainment Tonight, offers the first extended footage of Y: Marshals. It highlights Kayce as he’s readying to get into the fight, with Grimes briefly touching on what fans should expect from the more action-focused Yellowstone spinoff. Check it out below:

Kayce’s solo series sees Grimes’ character putting the Yellowstone Ranch behind him to join an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. He combines his skills as a cowboy and his past to bring range justice to Montana, having to balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with his job.

The main cast for the spinoff has been confirmed, with Logan Marshall-Green (UpgradeSpider-Man: Homecoming) playing Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s time in the military. It’s likewise been reported that Brecken Merrill, Gil Birmingham, and Mo Brings Plenty will reprise their Yellowstone characters.

Merrill plays Tate Dutton, Kayce’s son, with Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty as Thomas Rainwater and Mo, respectively. They’ll be joined in the cast by The Vampire Diaries alum Arielle Kebbel, Ransom Canyon‘s Tatanka Means, Mayor of Kingstown‘s Ash Santos, and Narcos actor Brett Cullen.

Spencer Hudnut, who previously worked on the CBS and Paramount+ drama SEAL Team, will also serve as showrunner of Y: Marshals. The new show may remind viewers of the long-running David Boreanaz series, which dealt with similar themes. But the spinoff carries Yellowstone ties off-screen. Franchise creator Taylor Sheridan is among the executive producers, as are David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Grimes, and Hudnut.

After the death of John Dutton and Kevin Costner’s departure, the focus has been on splitting the remaining Duttons into their own spinoffs. Time will tell if that approach proves to be as successful. But the first preview of Y: Marshals announces that this particular venture will have a bit of a different vibe than the usual ranch-related betrayals and political moves.
