The spinoffs will offer insight into how things are progressing for Yellowstone’s modern-day characters after the original series ended. Kayce Dutton’s Yellowstone spinoff, Y: Marshals, is poised to be the first in succession. However, several others are also approaching series debuts, potentially making 2026 a massive year for Yellowstone ahead of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount exit, which will impact the franchise.
Yellowstone’s Modern Story Returns on March 1

It’s confirmed that Yellowstone’s story will continue in March, if not sooner, with Kayce Dutton’s (Luke Grimes) Yellowstone series, Y: Marshals, poised to premiere on the first of the month (per Variety). The series, a procedural for CBS, will continue the story of John Dutton’s youngest son as he finds a new path as an elite US Marshall.
1923 Season 2 premiered in February this year. However, the story didn’t continue the modern Dutton family’s story. Fans still don’t know what happened to Kayce and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) after the curtain went down on Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 last November, which gave John Dutton’s family fitting, albeit temporary, endings to their respective stories.
Kayce’s spinoff will walk back the Yellowstone character’s ending in Season 5, which saw Dutton settle at East Camp with Monica (Kelsey Absille) and Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill). Kayce’s son will return to Y: Marshals, but Asbille has not officially joined the cast as Monica, leaving fans to speculate that something has come between Dutton and his wife.
The spinoff could have a different tone and feel, since Spencer Hudnut will serve as the series’ showrunner. Sheridan, Yellowstone’s writer and executive producer, has also been the showrunner for his series in the past, putting Kayce’s show in new territory. That said, Hudnut has experience with procedurals that feature military themes, having previously served as the SEAL Team’s showrunner.
Several Yellowstone Spinoffs Are Due for Series Premieres in 2026

Life hasn’t stopped unfolding for the Dutton family since the flagship’s conclusion. Kayce’s story, the Yellowstone franchise’s inaugural procedural, will finally explain how the original story continues. Fans may have to wait longer to know exactly what happened to Beth Dutton. However, Beth’s story could also continue in 2026, making it the year of Yellowstone.
A Yellowstone spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch, should also be coming soon. Originally slated to run alongside Landman Season 2 at the end of 2025, The Dutton Ranch is now expected to premiere sometime in 2026. While it isn’t official, Beth and Rip’s continuation is seemingly within reach for next year.
There’s also a more elusive Yellowstone spinoff that could be available next year. A modern-day Yellowstone story starring Michelle Pfeiffer, titled The Madison, will tell the story of a New York family relocating to Montana’s Madison River Valley after a tragedy. While there’s no official premiere date yet, the program is ripe for a series premiere.
Pfeiffer plays Stacy Clyburn, the matriarch of a new Yellowstone family. The Yellowstone show has also cast Kurt Russell, who will seemingly play a Season 2 character. Russell’s addition was announced after production for The Madison Season 1 concluded, with some reports that Season 2 is already in production. While nothing is official, The Madison’s premiere shouldn’t be far off.
How Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Exit Affects Yellowstone’s Future

Seeing momentum in the Yellowstone universe on the horizon is exciting, considering the recent announcement that, after his contract is up, Taylor Sheridan will exit Paramount after making a deal with NBCUniversal. The Yellowstone executive producer has a contract with Paramount+’s company through the end of 2028, after which he is poised to leave and start anew.
While Sheridan will be free to work on other projects after his exit, the properties he made for Paramount will stay with the company, meaning that Paramount+ will retain the rights to the shows he created, including all of Yellowstone’s spinoffs. That said, while the Yellowstone shows could continue with their creator, Sheridan’s input will wane after he transitions.
While some of Sheridan’s best shows could fizzle out, fortunately, at least as many as three Yellowstone spinoffs could debut in 2026. Though shows without Sheridan serving as showrunner, like Y: Marshals and The Dutton Ranch, have a better chance of surviving his Paramount exit, ones he’s essential to, like The Madison, need as much runway as possible.
