Fans of the Netflix series Virgin River have been left puzzled after realising that the events of the first five seasons have apparently unfolded within just one year. The show, which began in 2019, follows Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves to the quaint town and quickly becomes romantically involved with ex-Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).
Over the course of the series, they’ve faced numerous challenges, including conflicts with Jack’s ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), who convinced their friends she was expecting Jack’s twins.
In season five, a forest fire threatened the town, but was averted thanks to the quick thinking of mayor Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole).
Despite the captivating drama and romance, viewers are surprised at the condensed timeline of the show’s first five seasons. One fan expressed their astonishment on Reddit, pointing out some major issues in the show’s central relationships.
They wrote: “All this?!” and continued: “I’m finishing up season 5 and I’m just figuring out that all this is happening in a year?! ” They added: “Ppl get stabbed, fire etc…. this is the prettiest town but a literal black hole of bad luck…”
They also suggested that “All the couples need to break up especially Jack and Mel because all that drama in the first few months is a sign to move on.”
However, they concluded: “Overall I love the show but geez”, reports the Express.
The cosy, small-town charm of Virgin River continues to captivate thousands of viewers eagerly awaiting the arrival of its sixth season.
Despite the affection for the series, numerous fans have confessed that the show’s fast pace occasionally gives them whiplash.
One viewer commented: “Right??? It’s like we’ve been watching for 5 years and it feels like Charmaine’s pregnancy has lasted just as long…
“Only to realise that ALLLL this has happened in less than 12 months!”
A third fan shared their astonishment at the plot’s rapid progression: “The timeline is absolute nuts. If my sister got engaged and pregnant by someone she’s known for like six months less than a year after her husband died, I’d think she’s having a mental breakdown.”
Yet, despite some critics feeling the show may have derailed slightly, fans are eager to tune in for the next chapter, with the sixth season set to hit Netflix before the year’s end.
