Virgin River season six has finally been given an official synopsis teasing what’s next for Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge).
Netflix’s beloved small-town drama wrapped up its fifth season last year before treating fans to a pair of charming Christmas specials.
The official description reads: “Against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic spring wedding season, this sixth installment promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles [and] delightful wedding drama.”
Season six will also lift the lid on “uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s.”
While parts of the synopsis had already been dug up by fans previously, this new description reveals the first details about what sounds like a special prequel episode coming in season six.
Netflix has also confirmed who’ll be playing Mel’s parents, Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr.
Deadline also reports the streamer are considering a 1970s-set prequel to explore their relationship further.
Fans are now on the edge of their seats for the next part of the Virgin River saga, but how soon will it be coming? One fan took to Reddit after spotting the news and said: “Now we need the date lol!”
And another replied: “Looks like we’re getting that spinoff, looking forward to S6, hopefully it’s coming before the end of the year.”
However, others had concerns about the show’s new direction, with one saying: “It’s kinda really lame that as it turns out, somehow Mel’s mom and dad met in Virgin River, the very same town she, amongst literally thousands of towns in the state, picked after her husband’s death.
“Especially given that this was never mentioned before in terms of her coming there because her mom had always talked about this town as some kind of foreshadowing etc. So it is just a bit too on the nose and soapy.”
Despite the massive coincidence, millions of fans are still expected to tune in to witness how Mel’s long-awaited reunion with her father goes down at the start of season six.
