Lizzy Greene’s Top Life Lessons: Wisdom from the Nickelodeon Star

“There are pretty outfits, and then there are ones that are a huge fashion risk — I’m a fan of those.”

At just 14-years-old, Lizzy Greene has made a pretty big name for herself on the small screen. The star of Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn (currently in its third season) was just 11 when she landed the leading role of Dawn Harper after being discovered by a talent agent in her hometown of Dallas, Texas. Below, the ambitious actress spills the details on breaking into the business, attending her first fashion show in New York, her biggest fashion regret, and more.

How do you balance a full-time job with school and a personal life?

School is really important. The people I work with make sure that school is more important than my actual job. And if I’m not making good grades, then I can’t film the show. I like to finish my schoolwork early. That’s what I’ve been doing over the past three years. I finish it about seven months in advance. That way I don’t have to worry about memorizing my lines along with studying for a test that’s going to be happening the next day. When you get into the entertainment business, you have to grow up a lot faster, because you’re working nine and a half hours a day. I’ve learned time management at 14-years-old, and I’ve learned how to do all these different things that some people don’t learn until they’re in their 20s and 30s.

I love trying something that maybe looks really crazy on the hanger, but is super cool on.

If you weren’t acting, what career would you pursue?

I’d be a singer. Singing is where I really started out: I did the talent show at my public school every year and it was just the best — so fun! And I would love to start a clothing line or become a fashion designer. You can express yourself through style, which is so cool.

How do you feel about attending your first fashion show this fall?

One of my dreams has always been to be able to go to a fashion show. So when I heard I was going, I was over the moon, I was so excited. The first thing I thought was, ‘ Oh my god, what am I going to wear?’ [laughs].
