Expect some character growth when Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler return to our television screens.
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are set to reprise their roles as Beth and Rip in a new series titled Dutton Ranch that should come out sometime in 2026 (more on that later). It’ll certainly be exciting to see the two stars who had so many memorable moments in the flagship show once again, and they’ll also be joined by Finn Little, who will be returning to play his character Carter in the series.
Judging by the show’s official synopsis, the relationship between Beth, Rip and Carter will be critical to the storyline of the series:
“Beth Dutton (Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Hauser) are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter (Little) becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
Notice that line about being “grateful for the peace” is quickly followed up by “Beth and Rip do what they must to survive.” I’ve got a feeling we aren’t going to be watching Beth and Rip bake banana bread together when Dutton Ranch eventually premieres.
And that inkling is backed up by what producer David Glasser had to say about the upcoming series while speaking at the premiere of Marshals: another Yellowstone spinoff focused on Luke Grimes that’s set to air on CBS. The first couple of questions he fielded were about the Kacey Dutton series that will premiere it’s first episode this weekend.
After he got through those, Entertainment Tonight asked about the Dutton Ranch, and Glasser explained that he had just let the set earlier that day to attend the premiere:
“That’s in the works right now. I just left set in Texas, and flew here today. So that’s deep in the weeds right now. But it’s gonna be exciting. Same kind of thing (with Marshals). It’s a way to explore the characters, but also mature the characters. That’s the nice thing. We all want to be with them on the ride, but we also want to see them grow.
(Dutton Ranch is) a lot of fun. These shows for us are always a lot of dead bodies, a lot of people getting shot, a lot of crazy stuff happening. Just when you think we can’t turn it up a notch, we do.”
So it sounds like the violence will once again be finding Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as well. The producer went on to say that fans should be very excited for the return of Yellowstone, and that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly very comfortably stepped back into the roles that made them so beloved on the flagship series:
“(Cole and Kelly) don’t skip a beat, and it was incredible. They’re all… like the partnership we have with Luke, with them, they were all in. And in the creative and everything in the weeds. It’s a lot of fun, so get ready. It’s gonna be an exciting year for ‘Yellowstone.’”
It’s definitely an exciting time for Yellowstone fans… but there are still some question marks.
Most importantly, Dutton Ranch was originally supposed to air in late 2025. It was eventually pushed back to an “Early 2026” release, but there’s still no official word on when viewers will be able to see Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprise their roles and return to our television screens again.
Considering Glasser said he had just left the set, that would lead us to believe that Dutton Ranch is still in production. There were even casting notices calling for extras in scenes that were being shot in the middle of January. So in other words, Dutton Ranch is still working on getting some scenes put together after beginning the filming process back in August of last year.
All in all, not a horrible update on the show… but like I said, an “Early 2026” premiere is looking more like a “Early Summer 2026” release to me (for reference, Landman Season 2 wrapped filming in August of 2025 and premiered two months later in December).
