Jay Pickett, Beloved ‘General Hospital’ Star, Passes Away Suddenly on Set
Jay Pickett, the talented actor known for his work on General Hospital and Port Charles, tragically passed away on set while filming a movie he had written. His representative, Marc Chancer, confirmed the news to ET on July 30, saying that Pickett unexpectedly collapsed during shooting and died.
“I am completely shocked and devastated,” Chancer shared. “He was not just a business partner but also a close friend. He was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
Travis Mills, the director and producer of the project, also shared the sad news on social media: “Jay Pickett—the lead actor, writer, producer, and creator of this project—passed away while on set preparing for a scene.” While the cause of death has not been officially disclosed, it is believed to have been a heart attack.
Pickett’s co-star Jim Heffel wrote that the actor “died while sitting on a horse, preparing for a new scene in Idaho, USA.” He added, “I have lost a wonderful friend, and the world has lost an amazing person. Jay, an incredibly talented man, has moved on to heaven.”
Born in 1961, Jay Harris Pickett was an American actor who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Acting from Boise State University and furthered his training at the University of California. He began his career in 1991 as Dr. Chip Lakin on Days of Our Lives. He later became widely recognized for his performances on General Hospital and its spin-off Port Charles, where his characters left a lasting impression on fans with their depth, charm, and emotional resonance.
On General Hospital, Pickett was celebrated for his ability to bring warmth, complexity, and a grounded presence to the screen.
