Tracker may still be one of CBS’s highest-rated shows, but its recent casting changes are starting to test the loyalty of its fanbase. With Abby McEnany (Velma) and Eric Graise (Bobby) confirmed to be out for Season 3 — and persistent rumors that Fiona Rene’s Reenie could also see reduced screen time — longtime viewers are openly expressing their frustration and even vowing to stop watching.
“One by one, they’re removing all the best characters,” one fan wrote on a Tracker Facebook group. “At this rate, it won’t even be the same show.”
The departures hit harder because each of these characters brought a unique energy to the series. Velma’s quirky charm, Bobby’s tech-savvy problem-solving, and Reenie’s tough-but-loyal partnership with Colter Shaw helped give Tracker its emotional heartbeat. Without them, some viewers fear the show will become just another procedural missing its personality.
Why Fans Are So Concerned
Part of Tracker’s appeal has always been its balance between high-stakes mystery and character-driven storytelling. Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw may be the center of the series, but the supporting cast gave the world of Tracker depth and humanity. Removing too many of these characters in a short time risks making the show feel hollow.
“Colter can’t do it all alone,” another viewer posted on Reddit. “The side characters are what make the cases more interesting. Lose too many, and you lose us.”
The Showrunner’s Challenge
Season 3 is already facing higher expectations, with fans hoping the storyline will finally dig deeper into the Shaw family mystery while still delivering the compelling weekly cases. Now, the production must also work to rebuild audience trust by introducing new characters that can fill the gap — without alienating those who are still mourning the ones they’ve lost.
Whether Tracker can pull off that delicate balance will likely determine if it maintains its powerhouse status or sees a dip in both ratings and fan enthusiasm.
