Mark Harmon Looks Completely Different as Gibbs in New NCIS and Origins Crossover Trailer

CBS has released the first trailer for NCIS and NCIS: Origins‘ 2025 crossover, revealing an unrecognizable Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. After some scheduling changes, the network dubbed NCIS‘ block as “Super Tuesday”, returning the franchise to its original airing day. Jury is still out if it makes any difference when it comes to ratings, but it’s clear that CBS is determined to revive the franchise’s glory days.

Both NCIS season 23 and NCIS: Origins season 2 (and even NCIS: Sydney season 3) have come up with solid offerings since they debuted in the 2025-2026 network TV cycle. After a super-sized premiere for the flagship and Young Ducky’s return to the franchise, CBS is staging the shows’ first-ever crossover special. Per the official synopsis, Alden Parker’s MCRT comes across one of Gibbs’ earliest cases as part of the NIS, bridging the timeline gap.

In light of this, Harmon is making his physical return as Gibbs, as seen in a new trailer for the NCIS season 23 and NCIS: Origins season 2 (via TV Promos/YouTube). In the video, Navy Yard’s main team discuss their case at hand. The clip then goes back-and-forth between scenes in the present and past. Meanwhile, it also shows Gibbs in his cabin in Alaska. Watch the video below:

For those who have watched the flagship for years, it won’t be difficult to pinpoint certain changes in Old Gibbs’ appearance. While he remains ever dashing, it’s clear that time has passed since Harmon’s exit in NCIS season 19. Secondly, and perhaps the most interesting is the change in the way he wears his hair. Instead of his signature middle-part, it is now styled to the side. It’s curious if there’s any narrative explanation to it.

It’s worth noting that Harmon did make an appearance in NCIS: Origins episode 1, but it was far too brief, not to mention he was wearing a cap, making it tricky to notice these changes. In any case, Gibbs is still Gibbs, and any kind of update on how he has been since settling in Alaska is a welcome development for anyone who is invested in the show.

What’s more interesting in this trailer, however, is that it raises questions about whether Harmon will appear in the NCIS installment of the two-hour crossover. Previously, it was announced that he would only be in NCIS: Origins. However, it makes it seem like Old Gibbs will also have some sort of physical appearance in the flagship. Assuming that this is the case, it will be the first time that Harmon will appear on the flagship since leaving it 2021.
