The Young and the Restless is making another big casting move. On the heels of Y&R scooping up soap opera powerhouses Roger Howarth and Tamara Braun, the show is also adding Matt Cohen to the cast.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cohen is already on the set of The Young and the Restless, filming his scenes. He will first appear on screen on Thursday, October 16.
Cohen will pop up in Genoa City as a new character named Detective Burrow. Few details about the character or his upcoming storyline have emerged at this point. However, Entertainment Weekly shared that Burrow will be “front and center investigating a major case featuring some of the soap’s key characters.”
Matt Cohen Played Dr. Griffin Munro on ‘General Hospital’
As Soap Opera Digest noted, Cohen is no newbie to the soap opera world. About a decade ago, he originated the role of priest-turned-doctor Griffin Munro on General Hospital. He left in 2019, seeking new acting challenges.
After leaving General Hospital, Cohen joined Entertainment Tonight for a while and appeared as a young John Winchester in several episodes of Supernatural.
Y&R Fans Have Lots of Opinions on the Cohen Casting News
As soon as the news of Cohen’s new role on The Young and the Restless emerged, soap fans took to Reddit to discuss it. A common theme in the discussions was that Cohen could have been a perfect recast to take over the role of Chance Chancellor.
Entertainment Weekly noted that Chancellor, played by Conner Floyd, was killed off of The Young and the Restless in July.
“I never watched [Y&R] but I may start,” one General Hospital fan quipped on Reddit.
“Hopefully he’s playing someone more interesting on Y&R than he was on GH. I wonder if they’ll pair him with Claire? He and Hayley [Erin] had good chemistry on GH when they were paired together,” a Redditor added.
“Matt doesn’t need to be a new character. He could [have] been a recast of someone like a character you just killed. Pretty sure they are going to try him with Claire since him and Hayley were paired on gh,” noted another Reddit user.
