The fan favorite actor opens up about his interest in returning to the Peacock streaming soap opera.
Matthew Ashford joined Days of Our Lives back in 1987, now thirty-eight years later, the actor say’s he’s still having a blast, and he’s eager to return and do more on the Peacock streaming soap opera.
Ashford recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about his interest in returning, “It really is my hope to come back I’d be happy to reignite some of the old days craziness at The Spectator. I think there are a lot of new young actors who haven’t found themselves yet and the show hasn’t exactly figured out what they’re going to do with them, and it would be a great opportunity for Jack.”
The actor has ideas on how his character could return, the fan favorite believes his character could play a role in the stories similar to his old partner Vern, played by the late Wayne Heffley. “Well, yeah. Vern got do a lot of crazy things, and I could do the same things,”
Ashford continued to explain how his on-screen wife, played by Missy Reeves, doesn’t necessarily have to return for his character to come back to town. “Jennifer doesn’t necessarily have to be there, since we have another newspaper elsewhere. We’ve got enough roots in town to do different stuff. And there’s a lot of stuff Jack could do.”
During his most recent visit to town, Jack got to interact closely as a somewhat mentor to Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), which gave Ashford ideas on potential story direction for his character. The actor shared, “Leo’s never been Jack’s cup of tea, to say the least, but in spite of this, Leo’s actually starting to grow on him. So, it was fun. I’ve thought it would be great for Jack to come back and be a mentor to some of the young people the same way that Vern was a mentor to Jack. Let’s redo the eighties and the nineties. Let’s find some young people who don’t know where they’re going in their life, and Jack could say, ‘What about this?’ Let them find their way and work, and if a relationship develops between them, good. Let Jack be the taskmaster. I’d be glad to be able to do that. I don’t know what the Leo thing was or where that’s [going to go], but I’d be game for that.”
With that said, Emily O’Brien is confirmed to be returning later this summer as Jack’s daughter Gwen Rizczech. Speaking of this the actor added, “Gwen is in and out, I hope she’ll be there more, Emily is just a wonderful addition to the show.
Fans won’t have to wait too long for Jack and Jennifer to return, as social media post indicate that the two were on set earlier this year, but fans will have to stay tuned to see if Jack and Jennifer are back in town and if so what will bring them back.
