Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to CBS in this fall’s new series Einstein. He plays the title character, who like his Dr. Spencer Reid character from the hit procedural, is also a genius.
Einstein, described as “a drama with comedic undertones,” is an adaptation of a German series by Andy Breckman, who created Monk, so he knows his way around brainy intellects with an eye to solving crimes.
When will Einstein air?
Einstein was originally slated for CBS’ Fall 2025-2026 schedule, but has since been moved to the 2026-2027 season because CBS had too many series on its schedule, so moving Einstein gave it additional time to be developed.

Rosa Salazar was originally going to play the role, but when the series was delayed for a year, she opted not to have her option picked up.

The official synopsis reads: “Brilliant but directionless, the great-grandson of Albert Einstein spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.”
