Maura Tierney is making her full-time debut on “Law & Order” in October — and we’ve got a sneak peek.
The veteran TV actor, who previously had starring roles on “NewsRadio,” “ER” and “The Affair,” portrays NYPD Lt. Jessica Brady in Season 24 of the crime drama, which premieres Thursday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. She previously had a guest-starring role on the show in the early ’90s.
Tierney can be seen portraying Brady in a short teaser promo NBC released exclusively to TODAY.com on Sept. 5.
The 30-second promo combines footage from the premiere of “L&O” with that of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” which returns for its 26th season at 9 p.m. Oct. 3. (Both shows will stream the next day on Peacock.)
(Peacock is part of our parent company, NBCUniversal.)
“I’m your new lieutenant,” Brady tells her team, including police Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks), at what appears to be a crime scene. A beat later, the no-nonsense lieutenant is advising Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott), “I don’t need you to like me. I need you to listen to me.”
Tierney, who takes over the lieutenant role previously held by Camryn Manheim, is among a handful of recent newcomers to the 27th Precinct.
Former “Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn, who made his debut as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter on “Law & Order” in March, kicks off the video by saying, “My pledge is simple: I will do everything in my power to keep you safe.” Last season’s finale ended with a family scandal for Baxter that emerged during his DA election campaign.
EADA Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) and Assistant District Attorney Samantha Maroun (Odelya Halevi) can also be seen in the teaser.
The promo also features several glimpses of “SVU” and the show’s longtime star, Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Early on, Benson is seen leading a crying woman away from a crime scene. Later, she stands on the street with ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (Peter Scanavino), who raises a toast — over paper coffee cups — to “bad guys getting what they deserve.”
The video also shows a young man asking if he’s in trouble and Benson’s sergeant, Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T), responding, “Should you be?”
The promo ends with a determined Benson vowing to someone, “I’m not giving up on this case. I’m just getting started.”
In addition to Hargitay, Ice-T and Scanavino, the Season 26 “SVU” cast includes Octavio Pisano, newcomer Juliana Aidén Martinez and Kevin Kane, who was upped to a series regular.
