Max Thieriot Lands Lead Role in CBS’ Cal Fire—Is He Saying Goodbye to SEAL Team?

SEAL Team could be losing a fan favorite before its sixth season airs on Paramount+. According to Deadline, Max Thieriot will star in the CBS pilot Cal Fire. As previously reported, Max co-wrote the project and will serve as an executive producer. Deadline notes that the beloved actor currently has no deal for SEAL Team Season 6.

However, the site warns that it’s possible he could balance both shows and that “there are positive signs that things will work out.” SEAL Team Season 5 ended on a cliffhanger that could easily eliminate Thieriot’s Clay Spenser. If you watch SEAL Team online, you’ll know that Clay admitted that he took a leave of absence from the team after his son Brian was born.

However, the controversial finale ended with everyone on the team in trouble after a shocking ambush. Cal Fire follows a young inmate named Bode Donovan who is looking for redemption and a shorter prison sentence. He joins a firefighting program that takes him back to his hometown in Northern California.

The show follows Bode and other inmates working alongside firefighters to keep the area safe from fires. Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI) and married couple Tony Phelan and Joan Rater (Council of Fathers, Grey’s Anatomy) also star in the series. Thieriot has been a part of SEAL Team since the beginning, and the recent move to Paramount+ has been a success.

The streaming service ordered a sixth season earlier this month. “We are thrilled to welcome SEAL TEAM back for another season on Paramount+,” said Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series. “The show’s loyal fan base has followed the series to its new exclusive home, and it has proven to be a high-performing title for the service, consistently ranking in the top 10 most-watched original series.”

“We can’t wait for fans to see what our incredible creative team brings to Team Bravo next season!” What do you think of the news? Click the comments below.
