Messy Family Drama Is Actually the Best Thing to Ever Happen to Tracker

Be that only for his job, Colter Shaw wouldn’t be that appealing after all.

Having come to its end only around a couple of weeks ago, Tracker ’s first season easily garnered millions of viewers becoming CBS’ biggest hit of this TV season, but the show would’ve most likely never reached that level if it weren’t for those big plot twists that eventually turned Tracker’s focus to a very different direction.

Started as an action drama about an investigator with a somewhat weird job, the show ended its first season as something that masterfully combines a detective-coded storyline and big personal issues, but not too much though.

Tracker’s first several episodes follow exclusively Colter Shaw’s cross-country trips during which he gives a helping hand (for a reward, obviously) to citizens who have some kind of mystery to be unveiled. Over the course of the plot, the character’s personality starts coming out of the shadows while he is trying to run away from his own troubled past.

Once Colter realizes that he has no other way but to finally deal with his family’s biggest problem that’s been torturing him as well, his personal drama finally gives some space for the show’s exploration of Colter’s inner world.

Simultaneously, Tracker doesn’t let itself dive too deep into its character’s personal issues as it keeps Colter busy with work that actually allows him to distract himself from all the family troubles, at least for a while.

Though by the end of season 1 Tracker has no choice but to let Colter get more engaged in the investigation of his father’s death years ago, the show’s structure that attributes a different case to each episode in quite a strict way still keeps Colter on track regarding his work that he obviously prioritizes, even when it comes to some major personal issues that never leave him in peace.

Whether or not things will change drastically in Tracker’s next installment, there’s so far no way to predict anything about it until the show’s season 2 lands on CBS this fall.
