While the story of NCIS: Hawai’i is over, its cast remains as close as ever. The show began in 2021 as an NCIS spin-off and starred Vanessa Lachey as NCIS’ first female lead, Jane Tennant. As a procedural, Hawai’i followed a team of Naval Investigators solving crimes in Hawai’i. Unfortunately, CBS canceled the show after season 3, and Lachey has been campaigning for its return ever since.
The NCIS: Hawai’i cast was surprised by the news of the show’s cancelation, but that hasn’t stopped the team from reuniting to celebrate the show’s legacy. Lachey posted a now-expired Instagram story, which TVLine managed to capture, featuring the cast reuniting on a beach at sunset. Check it out below:
The reunion includes Lachey, Tori Anderson (Kate), Jason Antoon (Ernie), Seana Kofoed (Dr. Chase), and their spouses. They also added “We [love] U Hawai’i. We really REALLY LOVE You!” in the text at the bottom of the story.
NCIS: Hawai’i’s Cast Will Miss The Show Immensely
Hawai’i’s season 4 cancelation came as a surprise to the cast and viewers alike, given the franchise’s popularity. Antoon described the surprise by stating, “This business is brutal”, while Anderson stated that she has been “having a really hard time processing this one”. Lachey said that she was “gutted, confused, blindsided” but still has a positive outlook that has left her “grateful, confident” and has continued to profess her love for the fans. The entire cast has been reacting in different ways, but the reunion is a sign that the strong bond between its stars remains.
The loss of Hawai’i likely spells the end of day-to-day connections among the cast as starring in a TV show usually means long days on set throughout the year. Those close connections have been severed, as each star will need to move on to different movies and shows to continue making a living. Lachey, who was committed to NCIS, does not have any projects publicly moving forward, but all of these stars will likely be in the early stages of looking for work. This reunion, then, could be one of the few chances that they have to reconnect.
Having led an NCIS spin-off, Lachey will likely have the opportunity to appear in various crossovers going forward, but her focus remains on Hawai ‘i. Lachey has already campaigned for a revival and posted a now-expired link for loyal viewers to sign a petition to save the show. Her focus on bringing her spinoff back indicates just how much she enjoyed consistently working with the cast and crew, and the rest of the team has expressed a similar attachment. NCIS: Hawai’i is over, but its cast remains dedicated to the show and to each other.
