NCIS: Los Angeles fans were thrilled to learn the upcoming season of the hit CBS spin-off may finally shed some more light on Marty Deeks’ mysterious past.
Fans of the popular NCIS franchise have long been clamouring to find out more about LAPD liaison and newly appointed field agent Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen). Although many other members of the NCIS: Los Angeles team have had whole episodes devoted to their backstory, Deeks still hasn’t had the chance, though that could be about to change when the CBS spin-off returns for its 14th season.
NCIS: LA showrunner Scott Gemmill has teased season 14 could finally feature the much-in-demand Deeks, M episode.
Throughout the show’s first 13 seasons, several core members of the team have had their origins revealed in special flashback episodes.
In the first season’s finale, Callen, G, started the tradition by focusing on team leader G Callen (Chris O’Donnell), whose whole backstory before joining the NCIS is still in the shadows.
However, despite becoming a fan-favourite member of the team, Deeks’ younger years have remained a mystery
TV Line’s Matt Webb Mitovich has now confirmed: “As has become an annual tradition of sorts, I brought this question, again, to showrunner Scott Gemmill.
“This time he answered, ‘I think, actually, it’s probably time.
“‘I just have to make sure that Eric [Christian Olsen, who plays Deeks] doesn’t write it himself. He writes [an episode] usually once a year.’”
The latest update from showrunner Scott has thrilled many fans of the show, who are excited to finally learn more about the agent after well over a decade of speculation
On Twitter, @kwanfan1212 exclaimed: “OMG, that long requested Deeks, M episode might be coming up on NCIS: LA this season!!”
@KRC1977 said: “Another season on #NCISLA, another teaser of the Deeks, M. episode happening this season. I’ll believe it when I see it lol!”
To which @cozmodog replied: “I hope we do finally get it. ECO should definitely be the one to write it.”
Instagram fan @wildemagi asked: “Who knows Deeks better than Mr Deeks himself?”
Although @debbiegnz suggested: “Oh and definitely Frank Military should write it. I always love his episodes.”
While @kathyfink65 simply replied with love heart and fire emojis and said: “About time.” (sic)
Frank Military has written and directed a number of episodes per season since the series began back in 2013.
He most recently helmed the penultimate episode of season 13, Down the Rabbit Hole.
The long-time writer has also made a guest appearance as David Kessler, a violent killer who has become a nemesis for Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah)
Kessler could make a return to make things difficult for Kensi and Deeks at some point this season.
With Frank still on-hand as both a writer and guest star, he could be the perfect man for the job to bring Deeks’ elusive origins to the screen
Alternatively, Eric himself could be tasked to reveal his own character’s origins, as it still hasn’t been confirmed which episode he’ll be writing this year.
Even if the episode doesn’t come around this season, fans can at least take some encouragement from the showrunner that more conversations about Deeks, M are starting to be had.
