NCIS Los Angeles may have come to an emotional close but the NCISverse is still going strong thanks to the flagship series and Hawaii-based spin-off on CBS.
The final episode of NCIS Los Angeles provided heartwarming and satisfying ends for the likes of G Callen (played by Chris O’Donnell), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J), and the rest of the OSP.
Not only did fans get a clue as to where Hetty (Linda Hunt) had been, with Callen and Sam now tasked to find her, but Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) finally discovered they were expecting a baby after years of failed attempts.
There was also a wedding for Callen and Anna (Bar Paly) which left barely a dry eye among CBS viewers but sadly, NCIS LA fans won’t get to see how their stories will develop.
But all hope is not lost when it comes to seeing NCIS LA fan favorites back on-screen, with LL Cool J landing a role in the third season of the Vanessa Lachey-led NCIS Hawaii.
And he may not be alone as Kensi star Ruah has addressed the possibility of reprising the role despite NCIS LA’s cancellation.
“Technically, I’ve actually played Kensi in two extra episodes from those that we’ve counted on our show,” she told TV Insider when probed on possibly reprising the role.
She continued: “And then it’s actually a third one if you count Hawaii Five-0 as well.
“This woman is such a huge part of me. In regard to me showing up on another NCIS, it hasn’t been discussed, talked about, or looked into.”
But teasing she wouldn’t rule it out, Ruah went on: “Obviously, I don’t know. I guess I’ll cross that bridge if it comes my way.”
So if discussions were to begin between bosses and Ruah, it sounds like there could be a good chance Kensi could be back.
News of Sam Hanna’s upcoming stint on NCIS Hawaii came after he made a surprise cameo in the show’s second season finale.
And Jane Tennant star Lachey admitted once the news broke that bringing cast members from other NCIS shows is part of the magic that makes the franchise so special.
She said, in a statement via Deadline: “One of the most beautiful things about working on NCIS: Hawaii is the show’s ability to bring the franchise together.
“We have had so much fun spreading the aloha to NCIS and NCIS: LA with the triple crossover. Now, we have the amazing opportunity to bring Sam Hanna to Hawai’i to help the island solve some cases and maybe have a few laughs in the process.
“Welcome to the ohana, Todd! It’s going to be a fun ride!” Lachey concluded.
Therefore, it seems NCIS Hawaii’s leading star is open to more characters from the NCISverse jetting off to the sun-soaked island.
But for now, fans will just have to keep their fingers crossed that all of the clues could result in a Kensi return.
