Daniela Ruah, who portrayed Kensi Blye on NCIS: Los Angeles, recently shared a hilarious and candid moment from the set, revealing how her co-star, Eric Christian Olsen—who played her on-screen husband Marty Deeks—often gets under her skin with his playful antics. During an appearance on The Queen Latifah Show, Ruah recounted how Olsen has a tendency to steal the last line of scenes, a practice that, while amusing to him, drives her absolutely crazy. She explained that on numerous occasions, the final moments of scenes are written specifically for her, where she delivers a key line meant to close out the scene, only for Olsen to improvise a witty remark after her line, thereby stealing the spotlight.
Ruah’s frustration was evident as she described one such instance where her character, Kensi, says, “They stole five tubes of explosives, they’ve only used one, what are they going to use on the other four?” to which Olsen immediately responded, “That’s a damn good question.” As the camera then shifted to him with his signature grin, Ruah could only roll her eyes and groan, jokingly calling him a “b*****d” for his scene-stealing behavior. It’s clear that, while Ruah would love to have the final moment of each scene, Olsen’s playful improvisations are part of the fun dynamic between the two actors. “Because she reacts like that, of course, I continue to do it,” Olsen laughed during the interview, proving that his playful habit was only fueled by her reaction.
Despite the playful frustration, both Ruah and Olsen have enjoyed a close and comedic working relationship over the years, and these lighthearted exchanges are just part of what made NCIS: LA such a beloved show. However, Ruah made it clear that when it comes to capturing that final moment on camera, she definitely prefers to have the last word—something that fans of the show might also sympathize with.
