Eric Christian Olsen, known for his beloved role as Marty Deeks on NCIS: Los Angeles, has recently provided a disappointing update regarding the possibility of returning to the NCIS franchise. Despite being a fan favorite, Olsen doesn’t appear eager to jump back into the series anytime soon.
Having started as a recurring character in season one and eventually becoming a mainstay, Olsen’s journey with NCIS: Los Angeles came to an end when the show was axed after its 14th season last year. While co-star LL Cool J made a brief appearance in the now-cancelled NCIS: Hawaii, Olsen doesn’t foresee a similar opportunity for himself.
In an interview with TVLine, Olsen reflected on his connections with former co-stars, expressing that he actively misses them and keeps in touch, particularly with Daniela Ruah and Renee Felice Smith. However, he made it clear that a return for Marty Deeks is unlikely. As NCIS continues into its 22nd season with a new prequel series focused on a young Leroy Gibbs, the potential for including characters from past spin-offs seems slim.
Olsen noted that while he treasures the memories, his desire to step back into Deeks’ shoes is “not so much.” Despite this, he remains active in the television industry, currently serving as an executive producer for the upcoming reboot of Matlock, which stars Kathy Bates. There’s even a possibility he might return to acting in that series, marking a potential new chapter for him.
While fans of NCIS: Los Angeles may feel disappointed by the lack of news on Deeks’ return, they can take comfort in knowing that Olsen continues to thrive in his career. Off-screen, he enjoys life with his wife, Sarah Wright, and their three children, keeping him busy and fulfilled. Whether as Deeks or in a new role, fans are eager to see him back on screen.
