NCIS: Los Angeles’ final season announces Ugly Betty star for key role

NCIS: Los Angeles is coming to an end, and it seems they’re pulling out all the stops for the final season.

In the latest casting news, Ugly Betty‘s Christopher Gorham will appear as Alex, the estranged son of Hollace Kilbride.

It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be the happiest of family reunions, so Alex’s appearance is sure to bring a fair amount of drama to NCIS: LA‘s closing episodes.

According to TV Insider, Alex and Hollace are set to have a “rocky reunion.”

Season 13 has set the stage for the father-son dynamics, with Kilbride sharing an insight into his family life with Marty Deeks.

He said “I have dedicated my life to the Navy, and I am proud of the career I’ve had. But I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the other side of that coin. My wife wanted a husband, my son wanted a father, and I was neither.

“At least my wife knew what she was getting into. My son didn’t have a choice. And there is not a day goes by that I don’t question whether it was all worth it.”

Talking about Deeks and his wife Kensi Blye’s adoption journey, he gave a big hint about his son’s troubled past: “If only the process for biological parents was half as stringent as what you and Agent Blye are going through, then perhaps my son could have enjoyed his teenage years instead of spending them in rehab.”

Deeks then suggested that Kilbride should try to rebuild bridges with his son despite the decade of separation, saying “My point is I think you should call him. Like it or not, you’re still his father.”

So, did Kilbride take his friend’s advice, or did his son turn up out of the blue? In any case, it doesn’t seem likely they’ll be playing happy families straight away.

The series showrunner R. Scott Gemmill has said before (via TVLine) that getting to the bottom of Kilbride’s relationship with Alex is “a story we would like to explore”, so it looks like they’ve saved a huge storyline for the grand finale.
