NCIS: Los Angeles may be airing its final episode later this spring, but Eric Christian Olsen just announced he isn’t leaving TV just yet.
A few weeks after CBS announced that the show will end after 14 seasons, the actor surprised his followers by revealing his next project on Instagram. Posting a screenshot of an article from TVLine, Eric shared that he’s staying with the network to work on a show inspired by the 1980s legal drama Matlock. He’s not only slated to co-executive produce it under his company Cloud Nine Productions, but the cast will be led by Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates.
“So overwhelmed with excitement to be partnering with these creative superstars,” he wrote on February 9. “Jennie [Snyder Urman], Joanna [Klein], Sierra, Bethany, Kathy, Kat, Anna [Volain Jones], Meagen, John [Will], our partners at @cbstvstudios and @cbstv LFG!!!!”
“So glad that you’ve been signed onto another great CBS show with a fantastic cast Eric,” one person wrote in the Instagram comments section. “I’m definitely going to tune in to watch. Congratulations to all of you! 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏻,” a different user exclaimed. “Eric, we are so excited for you!! Great work!!!” another follower added.
So, are there any details out on Matlock and how the Fired Up! star fits into it? According to a report from Deadline, the series will reimagine the original series and follow Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) as she comes back to the work force at a prestigious law firm. With her unexpected quirks and unique approach, she’ll help solve cases and expose unlawful work practices hidden within.
While it’s unclear whether Eric will join the cast, one other famous actor will star alongside Kathy. Deadline announced in March that Jason Ritter will play Julian, “the son of the head of the firm,” who feels an imbalance between work and family life. As the outlet wrote, “He always considers the good of the firm, even if it pushes the boundaries between his work and personal life.”
Sounds like Eric is in for a wild ride, and we can’t wait to see this come to fruition.
