‘NCIS: Origins’ Casts Philip Winchester as Franks’ Brother in Season 2 md24

The world of NCIS expanded in the 2024-2025 season to include a prequel about the mothership’s former boss, Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell, with Mark Harmon serving in the roles of narrator and executive producer), as he starts at NIS, with none other than legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) his boss. And now, in Season 2, we’re going to meet a major character from Franks’ life that we have yet to see in NCIS: Origins‘s present day: his older brother, Mason, previously seen in flashbacks played by Matthew Erick White.

Stepping into the recurring role is Philip Winchester, with his first episode the fourth of the season. Mason is described as “a Texas-tough cowboy who has recently hit rock bottom. Mason is an honorable man who has fallen on hard times and is desperately trying to keep from losing the family ranch. His desperation leads him to seek help from his estranged little brother.”

Read on for everything we know about NCIS: Origins Season 2, from the premiere date to the cast and more.

When will NCIS: Origins Season 2 premiere?

NCIS: Origins is moving nights and times for its second season. It will air as part of an all-NCIS night on Tuesdays this fall. Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, October 14, at 9/8c, after NCIS and before Sydney.

The premiere episode, titled “The Funky Bunch,” promises to answer at least one burning question, as the logline reads, “Gibbs and Franks investigate the disappearance of a young Marine connected to a mysterious compound with a charismatic leader, and Lala’s fate is revealed.” The first photo of the episode has also been revealed (above).

Who’s in the NCIS: Origins Season 2 cast?

The Season 1 cast consists of Austin Stowell (as Leroy Jethro Gibbs), Mariel Molino (as Lala Dominguez), Kyle Schmid (as Mike Franks), Tyla Abercrumbie (as Mary Jo Hayes), Diany Rodriguez (as Vera Strickland), and Caleb Foote (as Bernard “Randy” Randolf). With Lala’s fate up in the air, it’s unclear if Molino will return.

Adam Campbell will reprise his NCIS role as young Ducky in an episode paying tribute to the late David McCallum. In “The Edge,” according to CBS, “Ducky is sent to Camp Pendleton to shadow the team while they work a case and, in the process, he reconnects with Gibbs after the two crossed paths years earlier.” The exact air date has not yet been announced.

And Philip Winchester is recurring as Franks’ older brother, Mason, beginning with the fourth episode.

How did NCIS: Origins Season 1 end?

In the Season 1 finale, Macy (Claire Berger) investigated the murder of the man who killed Gibbs’ wife and daughter, but Lala convinced her friend to drop it (to save Gibbs) but claiming she knew more than she did when she did. On her way to tell Gibbs he was in the clear — after the two shared a moment in a pool yet did not kiss — Lala was in a car accident.

The end of the finale also introduced Gibbs to the young version of one of his future ex-wives, Diane (Kathleen Kenny).

Is there an NCIS: Origins Season 2 trailer?

No, there isn’t a trailer yet. It’s too early.

Which other NCIS shows are airing in 2025-2026 season?

NCIS and NCIS: Sydney were renewed for Seasons 23 and 3, respectively, at the same time as Origins. The newest series in the franchise, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which will be released on the streaming service Paramount+, is set to premiere in fall 2025 as well.
