NCIS stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo have addressed how their upcoming spin-off will differ from the CBS police procedural.
NCIS Tony and Ziva’s stars have explained why their upcoming Paramount+ spin-off will be different from the original NCIS drama.
Former agents Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), were last seen reuniting in Paris with their daughter Tali (Isla Gie), after it was revealed that Ziva had faked her own death.
Since Ziva’s second departure from the CBS police procedural in 2019, fans have been clamoring for an update on their lives. Now, their wishes are being granted with this forthcoming spin-off.
Having left their NCIS days behind them, Tony now runs a security firm while he and Ziva co-parent Tali. However, when his business is targeted, they must go on the run to discover who is pursuing them.
While the spin-off will feature plenty of action sequences and ongoing flirtation between Tony and Ziva, the stars have made it clear that their show won’t simply be another NCIS.

When asked by TV Insider how NCIS Tony and Ziva differs from NCIS, Weatherly responded: “We’re not taking DNA evidence down to the mass spectrometer so that it can be analyzed and then brought to autopsy, where someone can give a long oration.”
Further explaining the difference, de Pablo added: “It doesn’t live in the formula it lived in before.
“We were interested in the characters not forever living within the confines of an agency. We wanted to explore the relationship.”
Another major distinction between NCIS and this newest spin-off is that this marks the first opportunity for viewers to witness Tony and Ziva in their roles as parents.

Weatherly and de Pablo were full of praise for young star Gie.
“Isla is the most incredible”, Weatherly gushed.
De Pablo continued: “She’s like the still Yoda. She’s a remarkable younger human because there’s this ageless quality about her.
“She’s wise beyond her years. And it so happens she’s our child.
“I was like, really? This came from us? She’s a remarkable creature.”
