With many fans airing their annoyance at the cancellation on social media, it is certainly not surprising to see a petition being set up. In the past, shows of support for a project have seemingly been responsible for the return of series such as Manifest, Lucifer and even worked with movies, according to Snyderverse fans who finally got to see Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League after a prolonged campaign. The petition for Tony & Ziva’s renewal begins:
“NCIS: Tony and Ziva captured the hearts of millions with its intriguing storylines, charismatic characters, and the incredible dynamic between its stars, Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly. The seismic chemistry between Tony and Ziva was not only a cornerstone of the original NCIS series, but also proved to be a magnetic force for this spin-off, which pulled viewers in with its pilot season. Despite the committed and passionate fanbase, Paramount+ decided not to renew the series for a second season, much to the disappointment of fans who have followed Tony and Ziva’s journey for years.”
After sharing a view on why the series is one that deserves to be given another season, the petition ends with rally call to Paramount+ bosses to “reconsider their decision” and bring Tony & Ziva back for more episodes.
“We urge Paramount+ to reconsider their decision and green-light a second season. By doing so, they would not only please the loyal fans, who are an invaluable part of the show’s success, but also demonstrate a commitment to quality storytelling and support of their talented cast and crew.”
However, at the time of writing, almost a day after the news broke that the series would not be returning, the petition has secured less than 300 signatures. This probably doesn’t give Paramount too much incentive to re-evaluate their decision.
‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’ Sets Record as Shortest ‘NCIS’ Spinoff
Some series get renewed immediately and others can wait several months to discover their fate. The cancellation of NCIS: Tony & Ziva has arrived barely two months since the Season 1 finale. If there was one thing really making it impossible for this situation to play out as it has, it is the fact that no NCIS spinoff has ever been scrapped after just one season. NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled after three seasons, with high production costs and CBS’ reported desire to shake up their schedules being cited as the reason. That series had its own petition which gathered almost 45,000 signatures, with a second one having 5,000.
Last year, another NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Origins, was also announced, with the series focusing on the younger years of franchise icon Leroy Gibbs. That series has been renewed for a second season, leading to more fans believing that Tony & Ziva would have been much more popular if it had followed other shows onto CBS rather than going direct to paid subscription service, Paramount+.
