A new Ghosts TV show remake is officially in the works, following the end of its original UK version and the success of its US remake. Ghosts was originally a show in the UK that began in 2019, having ended in December 2023 after season 5. However, it managed to spawn a successful US version of the series, with Ghosts season 4 currently scheduled for release on October 17. The versatility of its premise, involving a couple moving into a house full of spirits that need their help, makes it so the show can work in any number of locations.
Now, Deadline reports a new version of Ghosts is being developed by BBC Australia for Paramount+ and Network 10 after the success of its UK and US versions. The show will follow the same sitcom formula of a couple living in a home full of spirits. In the eight episode Australian version, couple Kate and Sean are searching for a home when Kate inherits a country mansion, full of restless souls that want her help. Check out what Content & Programming SVP for Paramount Australia Daniel Monaghan had to say about the new version of the series: Ghosts has been a smash hit in the UK and U.S. and has also attracted a very loyal fanbase here in Australia. With a stellar cast yet to be announced, we can’t wait to bring to life our very own series with an Aussie twist.
What Ghosts Australia Means For The Growing Franchise
Confirmation of an Australian version of the sitcom highlights how much of a success the UK and US versions have been, justifying a more global approach to the series going forward. In both existing versions, the spirits shown highlight the history of each respective country, showing how different characters can make each show stand on its own. The characters of Ghosts in the US are pulled from events like the Revolutionary War and prohibition, while the UK version has characters reflecting the Georgian and Regency eras, among others.
This new rendition of the show will likely feature characters inspired by Australian history, offering a more unique dynamic than the other versions because of this. While there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding how the new sitcom will play out, the setting seems like it will offer a unique rendition that keeps the soul of its predecessors intact. Since there’s still plenty of info yet to arrive about its development, like who will be playing Kate and Sean, the series’ current development stage means more information is likely to arrive soon.
Our Take On Ghosts Australia Being In Development
The new version of Ghosts currently in development proves how much a geographical change could be able to impact how the series gets presented. It also highlights the global success of the two existing versions, to the point where another rendition can be added perfectly into the mix while still offering something new. With a setting that has yet to be explored across the growing franchise, the Australian adaptation is a strong sign of how many different takes on the show could be created in the future.
