Released on the CBS and Yellowstone Instagram accounts, the short teaser features footage of Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton on duty as a U.S. Marshal. Grimes also provides voiceover narration for the first look, with his fan-favorite Dutton explaining to an undisclosed individual, but also to the audience, “I’m changing paths. Try to find a new beginning.” While Y: Marshals isn’t set to premiere on CBS until 2026, the caption for the Instagram post wants audiences to get ready “for a new Dutton story. Saddle up for Marshals, coming soon to CBS.” Check out the teaser trailer for Y: Marshals below.
Y: Marshals was ordered to series in May 2025 by CBS. The upcoming spinoff, per the official logline, will follow Kayce Dutton as he joins an “elite unit of U.S. Marshals,” where he will combine “his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Noticeably absent from the cast is Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Kayce’s wife and Tate’s mother, Monica, in Yellowstone. It is unclear at this time if she is still in talks to return or if the character will not be part of the spinoff.
Two More Yellowstone Spinoffs Are on the Way
Yellowstone has become one of Paramount’s most important franchises, making it no surprise that two further spinoffs are currently in development. The first, The Dutton Ranch, will be a direct sequel to Yellowstone, focusing on Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler as they begin their next chapter together on their titular 7,000-acre land. Oscar-nominated actors Ed Harris and Annette Bening will be part of the new spinoff, while Finn Little is reprising his role as Carter.
The other spinoff is The Madison, a standalone expansion in the franchise that will follow a wealthy matriarch who moves her family from New York City to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law’s tragic deaths in a plane crash. Kurt Russell recently joined the cast of The Madison, which is expected to receive a Season 2 renewal from Paramount.
Y: Marshals is slated to premiere mid-season on CBS in the post-Tracker Sunday 9 PM time period.
