The costars have been teasing fans for weeks about breaking furniture on accident during one of their character’s intimate scenes this season
After weeks of teasing, Nicola Coughlan has finally revealed what piece of furniture she and Luke Newton broke while filming a Bridgerton sex scene.
To celebrate the release of the second half of season 3, Coughlan, 37, posted a photo from the set of her and Newton with their thumbs up as they posed alongside a chaise lounge that’s leg had broken.
“Part Two is out now, we put our heart and souls into it, hope you love watching it as much as we loved filming it ❤️,” she captioned the post, which also included a close-up shot of the chair’s broken leg. “#PolinForever.”
Lizzy Talbot, the series’ intimacy coordinator, commented, “One of my best pics 😂😂,” on Coughlan’s post, taking credit for the hilarious shot of the seasons’ leads.
Talbot posted the photo on her own Instagram, too, as she shared her perspective on the now-infamous on-set moment.
“Been waiting FOREVER for this to come out! It might be my most favourite work picture I’ve ever taken. You just KNOW it’s going to be a great scene when something like this happens 😂😂,” Tabot wrote, before praising the season’s leads.
At the season 3 launch event in Australia in April, the Derry Girls star was asked about the broken furniture story, to which she replied, “Yeah, hell yeah we did.”
She told 7News Australia that she and her costar “could have a laugh about it,” when it came to their intimate scenes, and Newton agreed.
“There were moments where we could explore the scene and try it different ways and that ended up in a piece of furniture getting broken,” he told the outlet, adding that they “just laughed” when it happened.
“And then, I think Nicola spoke, like in her Irish accent, and I thought, it would have been so special – I mean, maybe it will be in the final cut, us breaking into laughter — ‘cause I think that’s quite Colin and Pen as well. So it would be nice.”
When it came to their approach for the intimate scenes – for which Bridgerton has made quite a name for itself — Newton told PEOPLE: “You can’t really prepare for stripping down naked in front of your friends.”
“In those intimate moments, they find moments to laugh and you see them figuring it out and doing it together, and I love it,” Coughlan added during the joint interview. “The intimacy stuff feels very real.”
