There could be a major heartbreak coming in Will Trent, but it at least gives the series a chance to capitalize on real-life logistical concerns. And, once it happens, multiple characters’ stories will likely face major status quo changes that last long past Will Trent season 4. Ultimately, it’ll be the execution and payoff that matter most in the end.
Despite Will Trent’s disappointing 2025 Emmy nomination, the show’s definitely going strong. Season 3 delivered one of the most horrifically emotional storylines of the series, and it doesn’t seem like Will’s fully over it yet. But, thanks to a new scheduling change, it’s precisely Will’s angst that could wind up leading to some of the best Will Trent episodes yet.
Will Trent Season 4 May Not Feature Seth Due To Scott Foley’s Acting Schedule
Seth’s Actor Has Another Series To Keep Him Busy
Although there are doubtless still fans who feel that Angie and Will should be each other’s endgame, Scott Foley’s Seth McDale has been the perfect boyfriend for Angie in countless ways. Unfortunately, Seth’s Will Trent season 4 appearance hasn’t been confirmed, which is more than slightly unsettling given that he just found out he has a baby on the way.
This isn’t some random oversight or bizarre casting decision, but rather an issue that arose when it was announced Foley’s shooting schedule for Amazon’s It’s Not Like That could interfere with his ability to shoot Will Trent. Foley’s a major headliner in the new Christian romance series, playing a widowed minister who considers a relationship with his recently divorced friend.
Foley certainly deserves the recognition, but it’s difficult to say how this will affect Seth and his relationship with Angie. Will Trent and It’s Not Like That are both currently being filmed in Atlanta, which gives him at least some leeway to appear. Generally speaking, his appearances in Will Trent shouldn’t take more than a day per episode to film.
But unexpected pregnancies tend to complicate things. Seth proved in Will Trent season 3 just how committed he is to doing right by Angie’s decision to keep the baby, but he can’t prove himself as a father if he’s shown to barely ever be around. And Angie can’t go through it alone, which is where Will’s troubles enter the picture.
Seth’s Absence Puts Will Trent In The Position To Relive His Biggest Failure On Loop
He’ll Always Know This Could Have Been His Baby
From a purely technical standpoint, Seth appearing less frequently isn’t a major obstacle for the show’s writers. He works a job that can arguably call for demanding hours at virtually any time, so it’s easy to explain why his relationship with Angie might begin occurring largely offscreen. However, his observable absences could become a fairly major problem for Will Trent.
While listening to the baby’s heartbeat, Angie says outright that she always thought she and Will would share this moment with their own pregnancy one day. The look on Will’s face shows clearly that he’s had thoughts about starting a family as well, but he’s now watching the woman he’s loved the longest go through that process with another man.
If Seth has to be written out of more episodes because of conflicting schedules, Will could wind up replacing him in even more prenatal appointments moving forward. This means that Will has to spend months being constantly reminded that he’s breached his 40s without settling down. But considering how his last relationship ended, that could actually be a good thing.
How Will Trent Season 4 Can Benefit From Will And Angie’s Complicated Friendship
A Bit More Heartbreak Might Be Good For Wilbur’s Growth
It really felt for a while like Will Trent’s Marion Alba was set to become Angie’s replacement for good, and there are certainly fans who would rather see her return than for Will to wind up with Sara, his wife from the Karin Slaughter novels. There’s every chance that could happen in the future, but it still requires some work.
