When it comes to filling the void left by the season-opening exit of Special Agent Tiffany Wallace (played by Katherine Renee Kane), it would appear that the third time’s the charm for CBS‘ FBI.
After giving Scola a purposely fleeting new partner in Episode 2, followed by an unexpectedly short-term partner (played by Lisette Olivera), the crime drama this week went about things a very different way. The April 1 episode, “Covered,” introduced Special Agent Dani Rhodes (Magnum P.I. and S.W.A.T. vet Emily Alabi) with a robust storyline that both told us much about her as a LEO and had her play a role in saving the life of no less than Special Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym).
Setting Dani’s debut in motion: When an undercover FBI agent was killed in the field, Jubal’s team made the unnerving discovery that the identities of multiple UCs have been compromised — including Maggie, who had just infiltrated an increasingly skittish eco-terrorist group. The team in turn enlisted the help of Special Agent Rhodes, whose own cover had been blown by the leak.

Rhodes wasn’t at all happy about being pulled in, given the amount of work she had invested in her latest cover. But when Isobel explained that the lives of other UCs were at stake, and that Rhodes could prove invaluable in sussing out the leak within the Bureau, Dani saw the bigger picture and came on board. Even if it meant temporarily cheesing off the colleagues she was about to submit to a polygraph!
Having worked successive undercover operations, solo, Rhodes wasn’t instantly a team player — there was a flash of friction between her and Scola when she took the initiative with a foot chase takedown — but by episode’s end, she came to appreciate the “family” that is the New York field office. So when Isobel “hinted” that their strong team could always be stronger, Rhodes was quite keen on the idea.
