FBI season 7, episode 8, “Riptide,” ends in tragedy for OA (Zeeko Zaki), but this could turn out to be good news for Maggie (Missy Peregrym). The intense episode of the best FBI TV show revolves around a cargo heist that leaves several federal agents dead. Although Maggie thinks it’s a bad idea, OA again turns to Clay (Guy Lockard) for help locating the thieves who stole a shipment of gold bars and killed several federal agents who were trying to guard the gold.
OA’s trust in Clay has led to questionable decisions throughout the first half of FBI season 7, and when Clay vanishes while working undercover to find out if the heist was an inside job, OA becomes determined to find and rescue him, explaining to Maggie that Clay risked everything to save his life in Afghanistan. Sadly, he discovers that Clay is responsible for the heist and is forced to fatally shoot him during a confrontation. Clay’s betrayal hits OA hard, leaving him to lean on Maggie as he processes how his loyalty blinded him to Clay’s criminal behavior.

He Turns To Maggie For Support After The Shooting
OA and Maggie often turn to one another for support. At the beginning of “Riptide,” OA is there for Maggie after she tells him that her adopted daughter Ella in FBI will soon be living with her biological uncle instead of with her. Their positions are reversed after Clay’s death when OA feels guilty about not realizing the trouble Clay was causing before it got to the point where he had to shoot him. Although this is a pivotal scene for Maggie and OA, it is not the only one that allows them to grow closer during this mission.

Maggie made a huge decision about Ella at the end of FBI season 7, episode 6 that is so ridiculous that the procedural needs to reverse it.
Throughout the episode, Maggie tries to convince OA not to trust Clay, which leads to him explaining that his long-time friend mounted an unauthorized rescue mission to save his life after the Taliban had imprisoned him for 23 days. OA says: “It’s more than trust. It’s loyalty. It’s a debt… I owe him my life.” This conversation brings Maggie and OA closer than ever, as it is the most details he has ever shared about his traumatic experiences during his military service in Afghanistan.

While OA and Maggie have strong chemistry, it might be difficult for them to jump into a relationship. Both of them are gun-shy because of past trauma, and in addition, OA already has a girlfriend, Gemma (Comfort Clinton). However, it would be better for OA’s character and the series if he and Gemma break up. She adds little to the show, and OA does not trust her enough to talk about his traumatic memories. This makes them seem mismatched, especially compared to OA and Maggie.
