New episodes of the One Chicago franchise, including Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD, will be released the week of March 27, 2024.
The One Chicago franchise — Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD — is scheduled to air new episodes on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. All three procedural drama television series are in the midst of airing new seasons, which were delayed by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes in 2023. As a result, Chicago Med season 9, Chicago Fire season 12, and Chicago PD season 11 did not premiere until January 2024, and each season has a reduced episode count compared to previous ones.
The good news is that the One Chicago shows still have plenty of episodes to release before their respective seasons end (likely in May 2024), including three hours of new stories on March 27. NBC has also renewed the One Chicago shows, for Chicago Med season 10, Chicago Fire season 13, and Chicago PD season 12, weeks ahead of their current seasons’ finales. So, fans have much more to look forward to in 2024, as the One Chicago shows close out their seasons in the spring and look ahead to new ones that will probably air in the fall.
Chicago Med Season 9, Episode 8 Releases At 8 pm ET
Chicago Med season 9 is first up on March 27 as episode 8, “A Penny for Your Thoughts, Dollar for Your Dreams,” is set to air at 8 pm ET on NBC. The audience only had to wait one week for a new episode, as the previous one, “Step on a Crack and Break Your Mother’s Back,” debuted on March 20. Chicago Med season 9, episode 8 was written by Stephen Hootstein & Eli Jarmel, and the upcoming hour’s synopsis reads:
“Archer, Asher, and Charles encounter an expecting father who claims he’s telepathic and receiving messages from his yet-to-be born son. Ahmad works to thaw out a frozen criminal. Ripley treats Liliana’s brother as a favor to Charles.”
Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 8 Releases At 9 pm ET
Following Chicago Med season 9, episode 8, NBC will release Chicago Fire season 12, episode 8, “All the Dark,” at 9 pm ET on Wednesday, March 27. Since the network markets the franchise’s time slot as “One Chicago Wednesdays,” all three One Chicago shows will always air new episodes on the same night and take the same hiatuses during their respective seasons. So, just like Chicago Med season 9, Chicago Fire season 12 debuted its seventh episode on March 20 and will air its eighth hour one week later. As for the new episode, the synopsis for “All the Dark” reads:
“A hazmat call at a dialysis center leads to a shocking discovery. Boden clashes with Paramedic Chief Robinson. Carver notices a concerning change in Gibson’s behavior.”
Chicago PD Season 11, Episode 8 Releases At 10 pm ET
Chicago PD season 11, episode 8, “On Paper,” will close out the night with its 10 pm ET time slot on March 27. Unfortunately, the upcoming hour’s director is unknown (but will be revealed when episode 8 airs). Meanwhile, Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Jay Halstead until his exit in season 10, confirmed that he is directing an upcoming episode of season 11, but it won’t be “On Paper.” Halstead likely won’t return to Chicago PD, but at least Soffer is still involved with the series in some capacity. Nevertheless, the synopsis for Chicago PD season 11, episode 8, reads:
Upton brings SVU detective Petrovic back into the fold to help with the investigation of a tender-age kidnapping.”
A and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, the current seasons of the One Chicago shows will each have only 13 episodes. Consequently, Chicago Med season 9, Chicago Fire season 12, and Chicago PD season 11 will all be the shortest seasons of each series. However, as mentioned above, every show in the popular NBC franchise has been renewed for additional seasons, so while the current ones are shorter than normal, the next seasons will likely return to the regular 22-episode count.
For now, the upcoming schedules for Chicago Med season 9, Chicago Fire season 12, and Chicago PD season 11 are mostly unknown. Episode 8 of each series will air on March 27, 2024, while the NBC procedural drama’s ninth episodes will be released one week later, on April 3. The network has not unveiled One Chicago’s schedule after April 3, meaning another hiatus is probably coming.
