One Chicago Lives On: NBC Orders New Seasons for Fire, PD, and Med md13

This news isn’t surprising because the One Chicago franchise has been extremely popular for NBC for over a decade now: NBC has renewed Chicago Fire for its 15th season, Chicago P.D. for its 14th, and Chicago Med for its 12th. They will all air in the 2026-2027 season. While the network hasn’t set its schedule yet, we have a feeling they’ll remain on Wednesday nights.

After all, when the three shows crossed over on March 4 for a major event, which also brought back P.D.‘s Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos, each of the three shows hit their season highs in total viewers. (Med and Fire also swapped time slots for the night, as they usually do for the three-show events.) In general, the three shows are topping the ratings and average viewership when compared to the rest of the network’s scripted lineup.

The three One Chicago shows join the previously renewed Happy’s Place (Season 3) and St. Denis Medical (Season 3).

This leaves six NBC shows whose fates have yet to be decided: long-running dramas Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU, newer dramas The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, and comedies The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins and Stumble.

The One Chicago universe continues to prove its power on primetime TV. With Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. all pulling in strong total viewership, the trio remains at the top of NBC’s scripted lineup.

Even with occasional time slot swaps — especially during special crossover events — Med and Fire continue to perform consistently, reinforcing the franchise’s dominance across the network.

🔥 Strong Renewals… and Growing Uncertainty

The three Chicago hits now join other early renewals like Happy’s Place and St. Denis Medical, both locked in for new seasons.

But not everything on NBC is as secure.

Six shows are still hanging in the balance:

  • Law & Order
  • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
  • The Hunting Party
  • Brilliant Minds
  • The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins
  • Stumble

📊 Who’s Safe — and Who’s at Risk?

Based on ratings and overall performance, Law & Order and SVU are still strong contenders for renewal — helped by their long-running legacy. In fact, many fans believe both could eventually receive proper farewell seasons rather than abrupt cancellations.

Comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is also showing promising signs.

However, the outlook is far less optimistic for newer entries like The Hunting Party, Brilliant Minds, and Stumble. In particular, Brilliant Minds has raised eyebrows after its post-Olympics return was pushed to May, with only six episodes left in Season 2 — often a worrying sign.

👀 What Comes Next?

As NBC’s lineup continues to evolve, one thing is clear:
The One Chicago franchise isn’t going anywhere — but the rest of the network still has something to prove.

With more renewals and cancellations on the horizon, fans are left wondering:

👉 Which shows will survive the next cut?
👉 And what surprises could be coming next season — especially for a potential One Chicago crossover?

Stay tuned.
