One Decision, Two Lives on the Line: ‘Will Trent’ Sets Up Its Most Explosive Conflict Yet

Every once in a while, a TV character makes a decision that will clearly backfire on them later, and the audience can do nothing but wait and enjoy the anxiety and drama in the meantime. That describes the ending of the most recent episode of Will Trent, which saw the tension rise once again, both physically and emotionally. Now, approaching season three, Will Trent is spiraling into both a dangerous situation and an emotionally explosive confrontation.

Season 3, Episode 9 saw Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) investigate the murder of a rapper, H. Beltline (LaRonn Marzett), which ended up happening right in his home. During the investigation, the two head to a recording studio in search of answers.

It turns out that it’s the recording studio where Faith’s son, Jeremy (Deion Smith), is currently working. This studio is also owned by none other than Rafael (Antwayn Hopper). The murder may have been solved, but this storyline is far from over, and it’s going to have some serious consequences.

Rafael is at the center of ‘Will Trent’s Latest Episode
The episode finally reveals Jeremy’s new dream job at the recording studio. However, it’s not what he thought it would be, as it turns out he’s working for Rafael. When Will and Faith go there to investigate, Faith warns Jeremy about Rafael, and Jeremy reacts very harshly.

Rafael realizes Jeremy is Faith’s son, so he fires him, but he plans to keep the song Jeremy recorded there. Desperate to get his job back, Jeremy agrees to deliver a suitcase to Rafael, but is caught in the process with a suitcase full of meth.

Meanwhile, the tension between Rafael and Will continues to rise in this episode. We still don’t know what Rafael did to Will that day that cost him so much and led to their falling out. It’s clear that the show is working toward revealing this, and things have escalated between the two of them more than ever. Will and Rafael actually fight in this episode, and by the end of the episode, Will is plotting to take Rafael down.

In ‘Will Trent’s Latest Episode, Jeremy Becomes Will’s Secret Informant

While delivering the bag to Rafael, Jeremy is unfairly pulled over by the police for driving too slow, and the police even search his car. There, they find meth, but Will finds out and gets involved. Will didn’t want to break the law last season because of Angie (Erika Christensen), and he won’t break the law now because he still has a relentless sense of right and wrong. However, Will also doesn’t want to let his partner’s son’s life be ruined because of such a small mistake, so he saves the day.

Will tells the police who arrested Jeremy that Jeremy is his confidential informant working to take down Rafael, and he asks them to release Jeremy and not even put his name on the report. It could have ended there, but Will is determined to always follow the law, so he decides to make Jeremy his informant. He sends Jeremy on a delivery, and then he promises to use Jeremy to take down Rafael. Will also tells Jeremy that no one else can know, which means they both keep this secret from Faith.

This Plot Will Test the Will and Faith Partnership
The Will and Faith partnership is the best one in Will Trent, and it’s about to get a big test in the second half of Season 3. The two got off to a rocky start when they first met, as Will was responsible for ending Faith’s mother, Evelyn (LisaGay Hamilton),’s career. Since then, however, they’ve built a strong friendship and partnership, trusting each other deeply and genuinely enjoying each other’s company. The season started on a low note for both of them, as Will disappeared to Tennessee for six months after his heartbreak following Angie’s arrest.

Faith had a very difficult time while Will was away, and became surprisingly close to Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) in his absence. She was angry and hurt when Will first returned, and they worked through that, but that was nothing compared to what was to come. Faith loves Jeremy more than anyone in the world, and she is fiercely protective of him.

She would never agree to put Jeremy’s life in danger by turning him into a confidential informant, especially against someone as powerful as Rafael. Will knows that Faith would not agree with his plan, which is why he keeps it from her. However, she will inevitably find out, and this will cause a huge rift between the two that will not be easy to mend.

Will’s motives come from a good place. For all the tension and anger between him and Rafael, Rafael has been there for him after being raised when he was be easy for him. Will is only doing this because he believes that it’s the only option, and he is unable to bring himself to pull strings or break any laws to protect Jeremy.

He has to go above the board with this, and that might be something that Faith could understand, because she knows him so well. This is about her son, however, and it’s going to be a monumental betrayal when she learns about it, especially after Will called her a good mother in this episode. The fight will be painful, but Will and Faith will undoubtedly come out of it even stronger.

New episodes of Will Trent air on Tuesday nights on ABC.
