Titanic was a movie that made both Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Their work in the film was so extravagant that their reputation skyrocketed greatly. James Cameron worked extremely hard on the movie and 25 years after its making the movie stands to be one of the biggest international hit up till now.
While the movie had been greatly appreciated, there were certain instances that left a mark on the whole cast and crew. It grew into a serious problem with many people ending up in the hospital. Cameron himself was heavily affected by the incident and various mentions of the event made it clear that no one was ever over the fact that something like this even happened.
Kate Winslet And Leonardo DiCaprio Were Accidentally Given Angel Dust On The Titanic Set
On the set of Titanic, the cast and crew were eating some clam chowder when it was discovered that someone added PCP to their meal. Phencyclidine or PCP is a 1950s anesthetic that is now commonly known as Angel Dust. Although it was a basic anesthetic during earlier times, it has hallucinogenic side effects that can leave people heavily affected by it dangerously.
“Some people were laughing, some were crying, some were throwing up. One minute I felt fine, the next I felt so anxious I wanted to breathe into a paper bag. [James] Cameron felt the same way.”
The cast and crew, including James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, and Bill Paxton were all exposed to it. The substance was added to their clam chowder and almost everyone who consumed the meal was under some or the other effect. Although Winslet and DiCaprio were okay, the same could not be said for Cameron and Paxton.
Many People Were Hospitalized After The Incident
It was confirmed that around 80 people ended up in the hospital and the offender was never caught, unfortunately. Whoever had added the PCP to everyone’s food was never caught. Thankfully Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were not much affected by it.
“Jim [Cameron] was climbing into the back of the van; I was amazed at the way he looked. One eye was completely red, like the Terminator’s eye, one pupil, no iris, beet red. The other eye looked like he’d been sniffing glue since he was four years old.”
Both James Cameron and Bill Paxton had to be rushed to the hospital with the rest of the crew. The concern was ever growing and everyone was worried about them being okay after the incident. They were all left disturbed after the incident took place.
