“Original Cast Members Return for Season 10 of ‘Chicago Med’ After Franchise Exits”

Fans of the popular medical drama series, ‘Chicago Med,’ can rejoice as three original cast members have signed on to return for the upcoming season 10. S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, and Marlyne Barrett have all closed new deals to extend their run on the NBC show, as reported by TVLine.

Merkerson, 71, will reprise her role as Sharon Goodwin, Platt, 64, will continue to portray Dr. Daniel Charles, and Barrett, 45, will return as Maggie Lockwood. The trio’s return comes after some surprising franchise exits were announced.

‘Chicago Med’ first premiered in 2015 and follows the lives of emergency department doctors and nurses at the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The series is part of Dick Wolf’s Chicago universe, alongside ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’

The One Chicago franchise has been making headlines with several cast members departing across all three shows. The most recent exit was Dominic Rains, who will not return for the upcoming season of ‘Chicago Med’ after playing Dr. Crockett Marcel for the past five seasons.

The series also faced another shakeup as showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider announced their departures after being with the show since its inception. Allen MacDonald will take over as the showrunner starting with season 10.

Despite the cast changes, NBC’s president of program planning, Jeff Bader, remains optimistic about the future of the franchise. Bader emphasized that cast changes are a normal part of the industry, and the Chicago shows continue to perform well.

‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago P.D.,’ and ‘Chicago Med’ are all set to return with new seasons this fall on NBC, promising more drama, intrigue, and medical emergencies for fans to enjoy.
