Original ‘Yellowstone’ Star Books Return to Beth and Rip Spin-Off as Taylor Sheridan Continues Work on ‘Landman’

The Dutton family may have ridden off into the sunset last year, but Yellowstone fans can breathe a sigh of relief — the saga isn’t over yet. In fact, it’s just getting started. Paramount+’s upcoming spin-off centered on Beth and Rip — the most fiercely loyal, deranged, bloodthirsty power couple in modern Westerns — just locked in another familiar face. Finn Little, who played Carter on Yellowstone, will return as a series regular, Deadline is reporting. He joins Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, reprising their iconic roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Taylor Sheridan‘s latest expansion to his ever-growing Paramount+ slate is in pre-production now, while Sheridan finishes up work on the second season of Landman, due to wrap filming shortly ahead of a November release.

And for those wondering if this spin-off is a prequel or some alternate timeline experiment? Nope. This is a direct continuation, unfolding in the same present-day timeline as the flagship series. According to Deadline, this series will share “the most DNA with the mothership of any show in the universe to date.” Translation: if you’ve been missing Yellowstone, this is the one to watch. This is the sequel series.

First introduced in the Season 4 premiere of Yellowstone, Carter quickly became a surrogate son for Beth and Rip. After meeting Beth at the hospital where both were visiting dying loved ones, Carter became part of their makeshift family. Little has worked with Taylor Sheridan before on Those Who Wish Me Dead opposite Angelina Jolie, and recently appeared in The Surfer with Nicolas Cage. On TV, his credits include ReckoningTidelands, and Angel of Mine.

What Is The ‘Beth and Rip’ Show About?

While Paramount+ is still keeping plot details mostly under wraps, we do know where things left off. In the back half of Yellowstone Season 5, Rip and Beth relocated to Dillon, Montana, leaving the chaos of the original ranch behind. It was a chance to start over, but also a way to preserve the legacy that John Dutton (Kevin Costner) had built — and broken — over decades. While the title has been rumored to be Dutton Ranch, Hauser previously shut that down, telling fans “that’s not the name of it,” though neither he nor Paramount has revealed what the real title will be. For now, it’s the Beth and Rip spin-off — and that’s probably all it needs to be.
