Pascal Ibgui has valid concerns as ‘The Golden Bachelor’ proves love conquers all except long-distance & the hassle of uprooting a well-settled life.
It is down to the final two. The Golden Bachelorette season one has found its top two contestants in Charles “Chock” Chapple and Guy Gansert. This comes after the third man in the running, Pascal Ibgui, stepped away from the competition in season 7, shocking viewers who were rooting for him and Joan Vassos. Just two episodes remain and we will finally find out who is the man who stole the gorgeous Joan Vassos’ heart.
After his withdrawal from the show, Pascal Ibgui appeared for an interview where he candidly spoke about his time on the show. He shared a very valid complaint he has with The Golden Bachelorette and honestly, we cannot help but see the logic in his words. With his criticism, Pascal Ibgui underlined the same issue that tore Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner apart.
Pascal Ibgui Has Advice for The Golden Bachelor Franchise
After walking away from the show, Pascal Ibgui sat down for an interview with Glamour magazine where he voiced his opinion on The Golden Bachelor’s biggest flaw.
When asked if he would be looking to rekindle things with Joan Vassos if she ends up single after her show, Ibgui gave a very candid and realistic answer. He stated that those between the age of 25-30 and those who are still making a name for themselves can easily uproot their lives and start afresh in a new city.
However, since The Golden Bachelor franchise aims to bring senior citizens together, the contestants are well-settled in their lives and have full families of their own. It is absurd to ask them to move cities and states just to be with a woman or a man they met on a reality show.

I said from the beginning, if you take a 25- to 30-year-old kid who doesn’t have a pot to pee on, doesn’t own a car, who are in between jobs, who rent an apartment, who’s looking for an identity…it’s easy to say, “Hey, I’m going to move to LA, I’m going to move to New Orleans, and we’re going to make a living together.” But when you are like me, established, I have a business, I have real estate, I have my friends, I have my routine, I have my health club, I have my connection…I ain’t going to move anywhere.
He then added that The Golden franchise should focus on making shows that are set in the same city. For example, instead of The Golden Bachelor, it should be The Golden Bachelor of Chicago, The Golden Bachelor of Miami, and so on.
How Distance Ruined Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s Relationship
After finding love once again with Theresa Nist, Gerry Turner chose her to be his partner in the finale of The Golden Bachelor. After their season ended, they stayed together as husband and wife until April 2024. However, their love didn’t last long as they filed for divorce.
During his appearance on Good Morning America, Turner stated that after having “heart-to-heart” conversations, they concluded that the next best step would be to dissolve their marriage.
He stated that their living situation was one of the biggest reasons why their marriage was not working. Turner is from Hudson, Indiana whereas Nist is from Shrewsbury, New Jersey. Of course, distance played a huge role in their separation and this is exactly what Ibgui has warned us about.
Coming back to The Golden Bachelorette, Vassos lives in Rockville, Maryland and Ibgui lives in Glencoe, Illinois. It would have been near impossible for the two to live a normal life with each other thanks to their worlds being divided by borders. The remaining contestants, Chock and Guy, live in Kansas and Nevada respectively.
It will be interesting to see which bachelor Vassos chooses for herself and how the mystery couple will maneuver through the geographical restraints. Find out on November 13.
