Phew, I’m Relieved Tracker Season 2 Trailer Isn’t An Accurate Depiction Of Colter Shaw’s Next Story
Coming off of a hot first season, Tracker season 2 has a lot to live up to, and while I was first disappointed by its trailer, more information about the episodes suggests that the video doesn’t accurately represent what’s to come. The CBS action drama was a major success during its first run of 13 episodes. After its premiere following the Super Bowl, Tracker went on to become the most-watched scripted series of the 2023–2024 season. While accomplishing this feat was impressive, it also means that many are holding Tracker season 2 to a higher standard.
Part of what made Tracker season 1 so popular was its serialized storyline concerning what happened to Ashton Shaw. Of course, the TV show’s main draw is Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw using his survivalist and tracking skills to solve episodic cases. However, the mystery that is Colter’s past kept people coming back for more. At least, I know it’s one of the main parts of Tracker keeping me intrigued. The good news is that Tracker season 2 won’t sideline the family mystery in favor of other plots.
Tracker Season 2 Delves Right Back To The Colter Family Mystery Despite Its Trailer
The Episodes Will Circle Back To Ashton Shaw’s Death
CBS’s trailer for Tracker season 2doesn’t mention anything about Colter continuing to try to solve his father’s death. So, after seeing it, I was concerned that the next set of episodes wouldn’t make the Shaw family mystery a priority. Thankfully, that won’t be the case. When asked by TV Insider about how much Tracker season 2 would focus on the case, Justin Hartley (who is also an executive producer) said:
“In the first two episodes, we absolutely do … We left off first season with Colter having a lot of questions. He doesn’t even know who he can trust anymore. At the very beginning of last season, he thought his brother was involved in his father’s death, and then come to find out, wait a minute, he might not have had anything to do with it … So, Russell comes back and Colter’s got a couple of questions for him about this Dory situation and the box that she has and does Russell know where it is? And these government officials start asking about our dad out of the blue, and you’re like, ‘Whoa, what’s this all about?’ So, in every episode, Dad is becoming a little more vindicated maybe, or just maybe completely nuts. We don’t know. We dive a little bit deeper into that.”
We will not have to wait very long to learn more about what happened to Ashton when Tracker season 2 premieres. Even though the trailer might suggest otherwise. Colter (and seemingly his brother, Russell, played by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles) will dive back into the truth behind their father’s murder right at the beginning of the season, continuing the CBS action drama’s compelling serialized mystery. It’s safe to say that I’m quite relieved that the trailer isn’t a precise depiction of the content of Tracker season 2.
Why Tracker Season 2 Needs To Address The Colter Family Mystery Immediately
Tracker Season 1 Ended With More Questions About Ashton’s Death
I was concerned that season 2 wouldn’t focus much on the Shaw family mystery, mostly because of how Tracker season 1 ended. Colter was confident his brother killed his father. But now, he’s not so sure what the truth is. During the season 1 finale, Colter learned his father was having an affair with Lizzy Hawking’s mother before he died. Lizzy, played by Justin Hartley’s This Is Us costar Jennifer Morrison, also informed Colter that she found a box containing Ashton’s things underneath her mother’s bed. She sent the box to Colter’s sister, Dory (Melissa Roxburgh), who never told him about it.
Plus, since Jensen Ackles reprises his role as Russell in episode 2 of Tracker season 2, it makes sense to circle back to Ashton’s death. Now that Colter doesn’t entirely suspect his brother of murdering their father, the two might be able to work together to solve the case. However, viewers shouldn’t expect to discover the whole truth behind what happened to Ashton in Tracker season 2.
Will Tracker Be Able To Resolve The Shaw Family Mystery In Season 2
Tracker Season 2 Likely Won’t Solve Ashton’s Case
Given the action drama’s success, CBS probably plans to renew Tracker for many seasons to come (if the TV show retains its popularity, of course). So, if and when the series continues past season 2, it wouldn’t make sense to answer the show’s biggest question in its second season. The mystery behind Colter and Russell’s father’s death is one of Tracker’s biggest hooks. If the writers want to keep the audience engaged, they will stretch out this mystery as long as possible.
Tracker season 2 will incorporate other intriguing plots alongside addressing the Shaw family mystery, ensuring the show remains a success for CBS.
Just because Tracker season 2 likely won’t solve Ashton’s case, that doesn’t mean its episodes won’t contain any significant reveals concerning the mystery. Colter will probably continue uncovering bits and pieces about what happened the night his father died to keep the storyline interesting. However, fans will have to wait to learn the whole truth. Until then, Tracker season 2 will incorporate other intriguing plots alongside addressing the Shaw family mystery, ensuring the show remains a success for CBS.
