Beloved medical practitioner Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) had some serious ups and downs on her eight season run on Chicago Med, and it looks like Season 9 will be no exception.
In a recent interview with NBC Insider, Chicago Med producers Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider gave us some juicy hints about what to expect for Maggie’s marriage to Ben Campbell. (Spoiler: The couple’s relationship might be in serious trouble).
“Not good. Over this six months, a lot has happened, and it’s not in a good place,” Frolov told us when asked about the nature of Maggie and Ben’s future.
“They’ve not been able to get past the difficulties that they had last season. So yes, we’ll find out that her personal life is not going well. She stayed at Med, which is her home — professionally and personally,” Schneider commented.
And how will this bump in the road affect her professional life?
“We’ll see how Maggie is dealing with her marriage. We’ll see that coming out in her relationship to patients,” Frolov said.
Watch Season 9 of Chicago Med, which premieres Wednesday, January 17 at 8/7c on NBC, to find out what will unfold between Maggie and Ben’s marriage. Episodes stream next day on Peacock.
Marlyne Barrett and Kristen Hager open up about their acting process on Chicago Med
In a 2022 Barrett and Kristen Hager, who played Dr. Stevie Hammer, told us about how receiving real life medical training helped prepare them for their intense roles on Chicago Med.
“Medical training was integral,” Hager said. “I came out to Chicago a full week early to just do full days with two of our fantastic active trauma surgeons who work down the street from the studio. It was like a boot camp of how to get your P.h.D over the span of a week, and it was incredible.”
“I don’t go a season without coming back and at least catching up with Bobbin or the Dennises, who are our medical consultants, and make sure we get a chance to at least visit the hospital and remind ourselves what the atmosphere is in an E.D.—the rhythm in which life is really lived,” Barrett said.
“I think it’s essential to be telling these women’s stories—about the women in the E.D.and showing their strengths and weaknesses—and I think all three of these shows do a fantastic job at elevating women’s stories,” Hager
