Ramón Rodriguez Confirms His Big Role in Will Trent Season 4 – And It’s Not Just Acting

Will Trent star Ramón Rodriguez has revealed one thing that is definitely going to happen in season 4, following the Will Trent season 3 finale cliffhanger. The latest season of the hit ABC procedural went out with a bang, as GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner is shot in the chest by a Founders Front terrorist.

Although Amanda is taken to hospital, and has surgery, the season ends with her fate unclear, setting up a potentially emotionally grueling season 4 premiere episode. Amid that, Angie reveals that she’s pregnant.

Per LA Times, Rodriguez revealed that he is going to continue his transition into directing in season 4. He states that he will definitely be directing at least one episode over the course of the season, and that he would like to direct the season premiere, as he did in the Will Trent season 3 premiere, “I’m A Guest Here.” He confirmed that it makes the most sense, and that he loves to set the standard for the rest of the season. Check out Rodriguez’s full comments below:

I will definitely be directing at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere as I did this past season. I love that pressure of having to set the bar for a season.

What This Means For Will Trent Season 4

Rodriguez’s desire to direct again in Will Trent season 4 suggests he highly enjoyed the experience of directing the season 3 premiere, and that he feels comfortable behind the camera.

As the lead of the show, it also makes sense for him to set the tone for the season by directing the first episode, and he may feel that he wants to be more involved in the visual storytelling side of things in the upcoming season. In fact, Rodriguez could well helm multiple episodes over the course of the upcoming Will Trent season.

While it is not confirmed that Rodriguez will direct the Will Trent season 4 premiere, he does guarantee he will be getting behind the camera for at least one episode, and certainly expresses a preference for the premiere.

It’s likely that he has been in conversation with the producers and showrunner about taking the reins on an episode or two, and could set an exciting benchmark as it moves into its fourth season. A lot will depend on whether Rodriguez feels he has the time and headspace to focus on directing, acting, and executive producing at the same time.

Our Take On Rodriguez’s Directing For Will Trent Season 4
Now that Rodriguez has eased his way into directing, he should be much more comfortable behind the camera in season 4. This could result in him choosing to direct more regularly moving forward, especially if the show continues to run long-term.

By this point, Will Trent is full of interesting characters and immersive storylines, and has become one of the strongest procedures on television. As the show continues to evolve and grow, Rodriguez could look to take a more active role in directing, and help Will Trent improve as a series.
