We’re only a few weeks removed from the Will Trent Season 3 finale, and the show’s star is already pulling back the curtain on what to expect in Season 4. Will Trent was renewed for a fourth season roughly halfway through Season 3, and ABC confirmed not long ago that it plans to debut the next season before the end of the year.
Starring in the lead role of Will Trent in the hit drama series is Ramón Rodriguez, known for his work in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Battle Los Angeles, and Need for Speed. Rodriguez directed the Season 3 premiere earlier this year, and during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, he was asked if he had any plans to continue directing on the show.
“I will definitely be directing at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere as I did this past season. I love that pressure of having to set the bar for a season.”
It sounds like fans can expect to see Rodriguez direct the Season 4 premiere as he did in Season 3. The first episode of the third season, “I’m a Guest Here,” is also one of the highest-rated episodes of the entire season, so Rodriguez’s return to directing is welcome news.
Through three seasons, there were only four stars to feature in every episode of Will Trent besides Rodriguez. Erika Christensen and Iantha Richardson can both be seen in all 41 episodes of Will Trent to date as Angie Polaski and Faith Mitchell, respectively.
Jake McLaughlin and Sonja Sohn have also starred in every episode of the series as Michael Ormwood and Amanda Wagner. Other notable names to feature in Will Trent over its three seasons include Cora Lu Tran, Todd Allen Durkin, Kurt Yue, Gina Rodriguez, and Kevin Daniels.
‘Will Trent’ Season 3 Set a Record for the Franchise
Will Trent Season 3 concluded with an 80% score from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, which marked a low record for the show through three seasons. However, this is only due to the first two seasons having 82% and 85% scores, which are close to earning the fabled “verified hot” badge on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.
Will Trent was written and created for television by Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen, and it’s based on the series of books by Karin Slaughter. Adam Toltzis has also worked in the writing room on all three seasons.
Will Trent Season 4 will be released later this year. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series, and watch the first three seasons of Will Trent on Hulu.
